While we're at it, let's talk CRUSH WASHERS!!!!!!!

If it doesn't leak, don't replace. Again, 75K on the OEM and never a drip

This would be a good time to add a magnetic drain plug. Anytime, actually.

I haven't priced it in a while, but the drain plug for the final drive on the FJR is exactly the same plug as the engine oil drain plug except it contains a magnet and is probably much cheaper than the linked one. I know because one has been installed in my 07 since about 08. ;)

Really? $35 for a magnetic drain plug? Are they gold or platinum?

bikebandit.com has the final drive magnetic drain plug with "gasket" for about $12.

Autozone carries a variety of metric magnetic drain plugs for under $5, if I remember correctly. I have one in my FJR.

Is it OK to run an automotive drain plug in a motorcycle? Won't that cause clutch slippage, or burn out the stator, or something?
The huge magnet on the auto drain plug interferes with the electronical equipment in aircraft b/c it's pointed up, not so much on the bike tho when the optional shielding loop is attached to the frame and weighted down to drag the ground at all speeds. I hear the magnet helps with red lights too....

Auto magnetic plugs are to strong. They will keep more oil away from the clutch causing more soaks....

He was talking about the auto drain plugs. The car oil and filters work great, but those big magnets on the drain plugs will disrupt the universe.

Magnets in drain plugs are for BMW's.

You don't need to worry about how many chunks of metal are coming loose between changes with a Yamaha...

:)

I think it is time that the fjrforum.com adopt an official oil, tire, seat, gear oil, and tampon. It will make it so much easier to respond to these questions and we won't have to repeat ourselves or listen to the the anecdotal, " I've used Apex Goat Sputum for over 65,000 miles with no problems"...... no f-ing ***** dimwit. I nominate John Deer oil as the official oil, Shinko as the official tire, Barca Lounger as the official seat, recycled McDonalds french fry grease for gear oil and Tampax as the official filter. I'm open for adopting an official helmet, jacket, boot and toothpaste as well.

I'm sorry, is Apex Goat Sputum an official John Deere product? Because I can't seem to find it on the shelf at Big John's Tractor and Scooter here in Travelers Rest, SC.
