Gerry (Slappy) talked about getting a first responder course together a few months ago. So now we are getting closer to getting this done.

For those who don't know, the first responder course is course geared toward motorcycle riders. "This First Responder Training For Motorcyclists serves to better prepare untrained riders who suddenly find themselves in the role of "lay rescuers" trying to help a riding buddy. The course covers awareness, pre-planning, prevention, risk mitigation, as well as the riders' responses, goals and priorities in a "ride suddenly gone wrong" scenario." (from the Shiny Side Down website).

Jamie Edmonds (from the website) is willing to teach this for us, and we are working on getting the use of a restaurant meeting room in Kearney Mesa for this. The class will run from 9 am to 3 pm. We are thinking the middle of October for now, but this could change depending on answers here.

Jamie would like $500 to teach the class, so ideally this would be spread across all the riders. Gerry has a friend that knows several riders interested in this, so we are going to see how many here are interested also. We would like to see as many as 50 riders attending this event, so that would bring the cost down to $10 per rider. But even with 25 riders the cost is still reasonable.

So let us know who is interested. Also let us know what day in October is best for scheduling this.

Update:

The First Responder course is now scheduled for Sunday Oct 23.

It will happen at Giovanni's Pizza in Kearny Mesa (San Diego). The class is 9am to 3pm but I will be there at 8:30 to check people in. The conference room at Giovanni's will hold a maximum of 60 people.

We are doing this in conjunction with San Diego riding group, and it sounds like they already have 20 people interested.

We would like to get $25 per person. This will cover the cost of the class, as well as a lunch buffet.

Let me know if you are interested. (I already have JLBFJR on "the list")

What the Heck?! Only one person interested here?

We're up to 25 people signed up now. Since no one else here seems interested, we are going to open it up to all other riders in the area. If anyone here is interested, PM me soon. I will require the $25 up front to hold your seat.

Still about ten seats available for the class this Sunday if anyone is interested.
