I got my '06 a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't had a chance to really stretch its legs yet. This was just a quick jaunt to Spokane (about 150 miles away). The trip's all freeway, which I hate, but it did give me 2 hours on the bike non-stop. My previous bike ('86 Yamaha Maxim 700) couldn't make this trip on one tank at freeway speeds, so that was cool.
My first impression was: OWWWWWW!!!!!! Throttle lock is REQUIRED! On the way back, I borrowed a throttle rocker (clips to the grip and gives you a platform to hold the throttle with the heel of your hand) off my sister's bike and that was a lot better, my hand only went numb
I'll probably just get one of the cheap thumb lever locks unless someone has a better suggestion.
For the freeway, I'd like the windshield to be a few inches taller. With it all the way up, the wind hits me right at the top of the head, which only bothers me because it's noisy (I typically ride with my visor up). I probably won't actually replace the windshield because this is such a minor knit and I try to avoid the freeway like the plague anyway
My knees are going to be a problem. I have ridiculously bad knees for a 28 year old and this has been true on pretty much any bike I ride. I probably should've gotten a cruiser that I could put highway pegs on, but I was just so in love/lust with the FJR
I don't suppose anyone knows of some pegs for this bike that might do that job? Perhaps mount were the skidders would go? I tried the seat in the low position on the way up, high on the way back and I think that high was harder on my knees, although, the could've been an accumulation from the trip up the previous day. I'm going to stick with low.
The stock seat (this bike is completely stock at this point, btw) was serviceable, but I'll probably replace it next year. We'll see how my upcoming longer (~2000 mile) trip goes.
It probably sounds like I'm ragging here, but the overall picture is that I LOVE this bike!
