I got my '06 a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't had a chance to really stretch its legs yet. This was just a quick jaunt to Spokane (about 150 miles away). The trip's all freeway, which I hate, but it did give me 2 hours on the bike non-stop. My previous bike ('86 Yamaha Maxim 700) couldn't make this trip on one tank at freeway speeds, so that was cool.

My first impression was: OWWWWWW!!!!!! Throttle lock is REQUIRED! On the way back, I borrowed a throttle rocker (clips to the grip and gives you a platform to hold the throttle with the heel of your hand) off my sister's bike and that was a lot better, my hand only went numb :p I'll probably just get one of the cheap thumb lever locks unless someone has a better suggestion.

For the freeway, I'd like the windshield to be a few inches taller. With it all the way up, the wind hits me right at the top of the head, which only bothers me because it's noisy (I typically ride with my visor up). I probably won't actually replace the windshield because this is such a minor knit and I try to avoid the freeway like the plague anyway :p

My knees are going to be a problem. I have ridiculously bad knees for a 28 year old and this has been true on pretty much any bike I ride. I probably should've gotten a cruiser that I could put highway pegs on, but I was just so in love/lust with the FJR :D I don't suppose anyone knows of some pegs for this bike that might do that job? Perhaps mount were the skidders would go? I tried the seat in the low position on the way up, high on the way back and I think that high was harder on my knees, although, the could've been an accumulation from the trip up the previous day. I'm going to stick with low.

The stock seat (this bike is completely stock at this point, btw) was serviceable, but I'll probably replace it next year. We'll see how my upcoming longer (~2000 mile) trip goes.

It probably sounds like I'm ragging here, but the overall picture is that I LOVE this bike! :D

Welcome to the group ! If you do a search for 'highway pegs' you should get a few hits. FWIW When I did my Russell, I had them make it a inch & a half taller, LD ride knee problems went away, maybe something like that would help ? There's always Ibuprofin I guess... Enjoy !

I have installed a set of Wild Bill's highway pegs and they help a lot. Welcome to FJR land!!!!!!!!!!!!

Throttle lock - Madco throttle lock.

Screen - I like the Rifle screen.

Knees -What the others said; my Bill Mayer seat raised me 1.5 inches, gave just enough room for my old dirt bike knees. Also, wild Bill pegs with Kuryakyn doglegs and supersize pegs put my feet forward where my legs are almost straight..

Seat - You'll change.. Bill Mayer, Rick Mayer, Russell Day Long.. just have about 800 bucks handy.

I think you will find a heat pack on your knees for 5-10 minutes before you ride and when you return may help if the weather is cool. When you ride remember to stand on the pegs every 1/2 hour or so , let's the blood flow better .I would get a proper cruise control , do a search on this board about it.

Hey all, thanks for the suggestions :) I think I may just end up standing on the pegs for a few minutes every once in a while. That's always been the best relief for me anyway and I'm just not sure that the Wild Bill's will give me enough extension to help much. Some people here claim to be able to get straight legs on them, but I just don't see it, even with an extension pushing the peg forward. Oh well, I'll live either way :p

A "proper" cruise control sounds like far more work than I want to do (did I mention that I'm lazy ;) ). I think I'll look at the Madco throttle lock as no drilling appeals to me :p

Thanks again and I'll let everyone know how my trip coming up goes. :D
