Can anyone tell me where the pick-up sensor for the speedo is and if there have been any intermittent problems with this ?

Thanks,

Nick

The Speed Sensor is at the lower, backside of the engine. You will find it just below the engine ID # plate. The FSM sees the sensor as part of the transmission.

In diAG code #7 - "Vehicle speed pulse" you can spin the rear tire and watch the accumulated pulse counts as they are generated. Display is valid 0-999; resets back to 0 after 999.

And to add to Alan's accurate comments: the speedo is commanded by the ECU. The ECU reads the aforementioned speed sensor, performs the required conversion, then drives the speedo's stepper motor (through a serial network, I believe), which tells you the speed.

OK - Thanks to both - If I lose impulses from the pick up will it affect both the speedo and mileometer or just one or the other ? - i.e. does it feed both ?

Thanks,

Nick
