Interesting idea. If I were to build a kit car I think I'd want more motor. A small V8 would be my minimum.

The Sevens have always had small motors-I recall one with a Turbo'd Toy 2 liter that ran like a top fueler that was at a fab shop I used. They've also used FJ1200's ala legend car setups, and actually go pretty good. Aren't many V-8's that will fit in that tiny bay, the Ford 1.6 liter pretty well filled them up.

Hi guys,

I'm the guy building the FJR powered lotus replica.

Radman is right about smaller engines being more suitable - everything is about power to weight. I am hoping to weigh in about 550 kilos when finished. Bike engines are great in a car - especially lotus seven cars which are like oversized go-carts. They are popular in Britain where fireblades and R1's are the engine of choice, with hayabusa motors for those with a big pocket.

I went for the FJR partly beacuse of price, but mainly for packaging reasons - easier in a left hand drive car.

Anyone researched putting a turbo on a FJR? Can anyone comment on how strong the internals are?

Take a look at the following movie - its a hayabusa turbo powered seven on the german Nurburgring:

Great forum you have here. Is this more active than the ezeboard?

Sweet! I guess you'll have the only FJR that doesn't need frame sliders.

Way. And by a more fashionable crowd. :D But don't mention us here over there, you'll get banned immediately.

Many if not most of us are ex-ez boarders. The Feej would surely handle a turbo, it's a strong engine. The 4 valve head is less prone than the R1 style 5 valve to cracking between valve seats, it's compression is fairly reasonable (a thicker or stacked head gaskets would still be a good idea), and the drivetrain is V-Max proven.
