The bottom line: Get the bike that makes your heart smile...now let's ride.
Amen! I don't care what you ride. I always use the excuse "I don't know enough about bikes to know what is good or bad." That's probably not true but I honestly don't care. You like what you like, I like what I like. Now, let's go find some twisties!

but I know a GW rider than can probably mash a vast majority of FJR riders at the dragon. (...paging yellow wolf)
Yup - I've ridden with Rick and it's *amazing* what he could do with that yellow beast of his.

I have to disagree. I have been over there for a while. I have read things about the FJR that are the same things we write about. Engine buzziness, mirror vibration etc.

And they have commented on the "wings" on the side there is no damage to the tupperware after a tipover when compared to the FJR

I have never read a thread that was bashing the FJR, comments here and there, yes occasionally.

many admire the FJR for being more sport than tour and vice versa Honda more tour than sport.

Little bit of insecurity here?

There are a couple Honda only dealerships in my area while all the other dealers sell Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, & Honda. I have a Honda dirt bike & have bought things from the Honda only shops, one is nice the other well....I guess they need to justify to themselves the $2K MSRP more for the Honda ST1300 ABS than a FJR.

So I follow a link to the site called ST. owners to read about the FJR from there perspective and man....What a bunch of FJR bashers they have over there!
I was very surprised by all these Honda guys finding every way they could to say the ET is superior...blah blah blah.

It reminded me of another Honda site I belong to for VTX where a whole bunch of Honda guys make a hobby out of comparing Honda to harley and how much better the Honda is...blah blah blah.

Oddly enough I don't see much putting down of thee ST on this website, nor do I see anywhere near as much 'jap=bashing' on harley sites as I do on the Honda sites bashing harleys.

All of which inclines me to that FJR owners are very satisfied with their bike, just as harley folks are with theres and do not feel a compulsion to constantly dimsih another machine to elevate theirs.

Wow...I didn't know so many ST riders had a closet case of FJR-envy!
both bikes are equally just okay for the money.......................

It seems there are pros and cons to any bike.

My neighbor argued with me on Sunday that harley is the best bike ever. "Do you ride?" I asked. He said no. I said they are beautiful bikes. I then said my FJR or similiar ride is great for daily commuting or errands around town. He said, "no, harley is the best bike." I said if I was going on a road trip I'd have road king or gold wing. He said "Road king? Gold wing? What is a king and a wing?" Sheeesh.....

I don't care what you ride. Just ride safely & courteously and don't say your bike is the best.

And hello harley riders, is it asking too much for you to wave back every now and then? ;)

I go over to ST-owners forum sometimes and set them straight on the FJR.

Most of them still believe even the newest FJRs have the ticking problem and have heat issues.

They are about as rabid about the ST as we are about the FJR.

I don't get the feeling that as many of them work/mod on their own bikes as FJR owners do though.

There you go, that's a key difference.

Honda doesn't exactly encourage owner/self-service. Last time I checked, Honda does not maintain online parts diagrams like Yamaha. Honda service manuals are nearly impossible to purchase. Honda tech bulletins are closely guarded secrets etc. You really MUST go to a Honda dealer to get parts and service, and Honda seems to like it that way.

Yamaha won my brand loyalty many years ago when they included parts and service manuals with their dirt bikes. Then they sealed the deal with their rock-solid 4-stroke valve systems (and open support for any mistakes).

My opinion is that if you normally have the dealer do all your service work, then owning a Honda induces tremendous brand loyalty. Honda makes great machines and their mistakes are closely guarded secrets. You will find a very different bashing pattern if you sit and listen to a group of Honda, Yamaha and Harley mechanics getting drunk.

It's all about personality. I feel that the ST was an "older set" bike. I still care about being perceived as a bit sporty and not as old as I am (46). Great bike, I"m sure of it! Honda makes a fine product. FJR just has that edgier side that the ST doesn't and won't ever have. If you enjoy your ST - wonderful. I love my FJR and know I'll be happier in the long run and that's what's It's all about. :)

Just so everyone knows, I'm not maligning anyone's age in this post. I don't consider myself a youngster, I'm trying not to get any older than I have to be :) I also know the average age of FJR owners is over 50. I applaud anyone who buys an FJR regardless of age - just a good purchasing decision.

If I were you, I wouldn't figure out the average age of all the members on this forum cause you might find more of them qualify for AARP discount than you thought.

This ain't exactly a forum comprised of 20-something types.. Even if some behave that way..

Bzzzt! Conversation should have been over then with a "Dude - you have *no* idea what you are talking about then!" :)

I was out riding all weekend and many HD riders waved at me. Are you saying they are friendlier here in CT/NY than in CO? :)

Agreed but I was surprised by that. Anyone got any theories as to why the category (sport touring) or the bike itself is the draw to folks "of that age"?

1) $$$ of sportstourers limit bike to those with "means"...ie been werkin forawhile

2) vacation time available for those "older" folks

I think there may be a bit or cornfuscation between https://www.st-owners.com/ and https://www.sport-touring.net/forums/

The former being dedicated to the Honda ST and the latter being a multi-manufacturer sport touring group with manufacturer sub-forums.

+1 Lots of insecurity here!

I read both sites, and must say both do just about the same amount of bashing, maybe even slightly more bashing of the ST by this site.

Yeah, at 52 I'm not even old enough to own an FJR yet.

Oh, I agree and I wasn't trying to malign anyone's age. I'm no spring-chicken, 'just try to not be too old before I have to :)
