6'2" and 300#. FJR is awesome. You'll want a new seat, I have the Sargent on my '05.
Ditto. I'm 6'2" 285 as well and the seat needs an upgrade for sure. Other than that, no real complaints on the comfort side of things. I keep my seat in the low position so the "bars are higher"

Welcome to the forum. I'm 5' 10" and 330 lbs. I've added a Corbin seat, Rifle + 3" windshield and grip puppies to help isolate some of the handlebar vibrations. I'm in the process of making some suspension changes to increase the comfort and handling. The FJR is under sprung for us big guys.

There is always a Smart A$$ in the group huh...LOL. On a serious note I am actually using one of these and hope to drop a few pounds. Maybe I will drop down to the 220lb range. I guess I should find out if I will be comfortable on the FJR at 220lbs?

LOL

Thanks again. The FJR is a SWEET looking bike, no doubt about that!

Um, another big guy. . . 6', 260(ish).

Posture and grip puppies are all I've used to get more comfortable.

My son has a Boulevard M50, my brother-in-law and my father-in-law both have Shadows. Moving from the occasional use of those to the Feej. . . my hands went almost instantly numb, but I discovered that with the slight forward lean on the FJR I was resting too hard on my wrists and hands. Search for yoda position to get an idea of more correct posture. That and grip puppies have fixed my hands.

Only had the bike a couple of weeks, though, haven't been anywhere but work and the local area so far.

BTW, what's that . . . thing . . . in post 26? Some kind of TV rack with a food shelf?

Don't hesitate IMHO.

I'm 6'2 235lb and I'm coming from a VTX1800 and man, I only wish I had known about the FJR 20,000 miles ago.

I had a wicked, and I mean, beyond comfortable setup on my VTX, Mustang Classic seat, 4 inch risers, areomach 'crusin pegs, and I could ride 400 miles without a problem, BUT, I got tired of the heaviness of the bike around town, and the general lack of handling responsiveness I remember from other bikes (Honda CB900C).

So, I rode a FJR. I hate to say a bad word about the VTX, but compared to the FJR it is like wrestling a shiney loud chrome bear versus dancing with an athletic girl who lets you lead but asks you to respect her potential. ( try 'flicking' the VTX)

Now I really think there are only two kinds of bikes, The FJR and everything else, and that includes the K1200GT.

I LOVE my FJR. I'm really enjoying riding again, not just 'cruisin ( which is fun in its own right, but gets old when your hauling around a 1/2 ton ( me and the bike).

I bought my '05 from a gentleman who had the thoughtfulness to put a Russel Myer leather seat on it, tall windshield, highway pegs, 1 in,. risers and a Givi 46 to haul my gear around.

The Fjr requests from you the practice of good posture, and if you slouch or slump you will be penalized.

It is not as comfortable as my VTX for long rides , but I will take the huge payoff in fun factor over the additional comfort.

just my .02

I think I better head out for a buffet tonight....I'm 6'5" but only 200 lb. :p

But with bar risers and more windscreen, I'm pretty comfy on my FJR.

I am a big guy. about 6'2" 285lbs. ARE there any big guys riding the FJR? If so, could you please let me know how comfy they are both short and long trips. are there ways to make it more accomodating. Do any of the current FJR owners also ride Cruisers (or did ride cruisers?)
Compare/Contrast - FJR/Sport Tourer to a Cruiser(Honda VTX 1800)

Thanks, Jim

Jim, I'm definately NOT a big guy, but ironically, I sold my VTX1800C in favor of an FJR. I don't regret the decision, although sometimes I DO miss the VTX. It was a VERY good bike, and honestly, if it had more ground clearance, I probably would have never made the change. The VTX handled unbelievably well for a bike as big as a truck, but the lack of ground clearance really let it down, and I'm a sport riding kinda guy.

Now to sort of answer your question, even for a little guy like me (5'8" 160 lb), the FJR felt positively cramped coming off the barcolounger X, and my wife isn't a big person either. There was one thing that made the situation worse, but was easily remedied.

The Corbin seat with detacheable backrest had to go ASAP! Having the backrest coming out of the back of the seat eats a noticeable amount of space front to rear. I think Sargeant uses the same setup. I switched to a Sargeant re-worked stock seat, and a separate backrest I bought from fellow lister Gary "Garauld" Crowley. The bike instantly became much roomier, but make no mistake, it will never be as roomy as the VTX. When I'd talk to other VTX riders, I found that alot of the BIG guys bought a VTX just because they didn't fit on anything else. Like I said, the FJR will NEVER be as roomy as the VTX, but it's apples and oranges. Throw a leg over an FJR and you decide if it's roomy enough, but if you gotta have all the room the X provides, you might as well stop looking.

I'm 6'2" and a "dainty" @ 210.........on my first ('03) FJR I put the then "tall" Yamaha shield and optional, Corbin built saddle. As long as temps weren't above 70F: FUNtastic bike, long or short range. Longest single day's ride: @ 440 miles...NO pains. My '06 has solved the heat problem and is overall a better handling and riding bike than my '03 due to chassis and suspension changes. Out of 79 bikes I've owned she is as close to perfect (for me...) as anything I've owned or ridden. I did put Grip Puppies on her and they have damped out most of the buzzy vibes that got thru the bars on this one. If and when I ever recover enough from the 2 neck operations I've had in the past year, a Sargent saddle will go on her. The stock one starts "biting" me after an hour or so.

Overall tho this is, IMhO, an excellent motorcycle and really no comparison to a cruuuzurr style: this bike is reasonably rapid (even compared to the ZX12R I had...) and quite comfy for hours on end plus the handling is very good and her brakes (abs) are STRONG. GR8 bike! DFO :yahoo:
