A NEW FARKLE!!! A new dash for the FJR is now available! Designed and manufactured by a fellow FJR & Iron Butt rider, this is the bomb (IMHO). Having purchased and installed one, I can attest to it's quality, fit, and ease of installation. It is VERY sturdy. I currently have GPS and radar mounted, with one open space left for a comm unit (once I finally decide which one I want  )

They are currently available from CaSportTouring.com I have included the link below for those interested in a couple pics, etc.

Excellent fit and finish - I had Scott install one for me at WFO-4. A significant bonus for me is that in most orientations it acts as a sunshade for the FJR turn signals, making it much easier to see when I forget to cancel them! :D

The picture on CST sucks. You guys got any pics of your "dash" installed?

Will try to take some pics of my install and post asap. Here's a pic (from the same site) that is a little clearer and closer to tide you over until then.

The shelf will not fit with the Rifle tuning block installed (for anyone that doesn't know that already).

I was thinking of ordering a dash for this winters work on the bike. Any comparisons with the shelf from FJR Goodies? (If there is anybody that has seen both to compare them) This does look like a sweet shelf.

Devanator,

You want to get this shelf it you are going with a shelf. This one is a lot more robust. The FJRGoodies one is ok for light stuff but bounces around a lot with just my V1 on it. It you are planning on putting a GPS on it you really have to go with this one. I am serious about changing out myself...

If we get anymore nice days to ride I will try and come thought Alex and you can take a look at mine. Give me a call if you want more info.

We'll have to see what happens. the next two week-ends are shot for me. But I might be able to sqeek out during the week for an afternoon. If anything, maybe I can buzz over to you for an evening and take a quick look at your bike. I'll give you a PM to let you know if its going to happen.

Thanks for the information on the shelf too. I was kind of leaning for this new one but was hoping someone had a view on both. Thanks

I disagree. I have the FJR Goodies ECM shelf and have been running a Street Pilot 1 (monochrome with batteries), a V1, and a 3rd item (currently a Sirius antenna) on it for more than 2 years. I ran the 2003 IBR with it and have no complaints. I don't notice any "bounce" when it's fully loaded or when it's empty. I'm not knocking the new shelf, I'm just pointing out that knocking a competitor's product to sell this one shouldn't be needed.

I'm currious about a photo of the CAST dash as seen by the rider's cockpit view. The web site only shows it low and from an angle.

Is casportouring.com the only place to order this dash? I just read a few posts of people HATE doing business with them. Is there an alternative?

I like the way the edges roll over 90 deg. While the other shelves may be strong enough to hold one's gadgets, the calsport version would seem better able to counteract sag and distortion due to the 90 deg. bend. I design alot of sheet metal parts and that's a great way to increase the rigidity and it looks nice as well. Looks like you could hide your cable runs on the underside of the shelf. As for dealing with that particular retailer, satisfaction seems to be hit or miss.

I purchased this model FJR shelf about a year ago from the guy who made the shelves before he began selling at CA Sport Touring.

Now I'm in the market for a replacement windscreen and was all set to purchase a Rifle Touring screen until I read that it won't fit with this model of accessory dash. What kind of large screen works well (I'm 6'5") with this accessory shelf?

SickDog,

I think the reason a Rifle would cause a problem is because of their (optional use)

block that tilts the windshield back.

You can leave the block off and use the shelf OK.

Would your buddy sell the shelves directly to us?

dobias <_<

@ Sickdog, IIRC, he made these shelves to fir the contour of the CeeBaileys. The issue would be the "tuning block" tilting the windshield back, thus hitting the shelf. I have a homemade tunning spacer under my CeeBaileys, so the shelf won't work for me.

The reasons you state about sheet metal design are all valid points. Though I think the reason why the latest version of the shelf offered at CST is stiffer is because it has been updated with a 90 degree strip of aluminum on the back side. The strip is attached with adhesive and runs the entire length of the shelf along the center. I checked it out at WFO on the guy's bike who was selling them in the parking lot. Very good quality IMO, but as mentioned above, will not work with any kind of tuning block/spacer on the windshield. That's whats holding me back. I plan on making my own when the time comes to remedy this.

Also I think any of the shelves provide an easy solution for hiding and routing cables & wires. Unless you get down on your hands and knee's.

Can't comment on whether the other versions mentioned will work with any tuning block/spacers under the windsheild.

I have homemade spacers on my Cee Bailey +4+2. Scott's shelf won't allow me to retract the screen fully, but then I rarely did anyway before installing the shelf. It is essential that you disarm the autoretract if you're going with this shelf and have tilting spacers. ;)

Scott gave one of these dashes away at the SPANK Rally...I won. It's installed but I don't have anything on it yet. I'll take some pictures tonight (if I have time) and post them. The thing looks great.
