the 3 bills toward the YES is a good deal. That means it will cost you about $80. Sounds like that's their "cost". Perhaps you should push them for $400, or have them just GIVE you the YES.

Not heard of Yammy harnesses having this problem, but like I said, heard of it with Harleys. More than once. More than one bike, too.

Keep us posted.

I don't think that generally the harnesses are defective. I haven't heard of many problems in this regard. The harness on my particular bike does seem to be rather tight though-I noticed it while adding various farkles. No extra cable is generally a good thing as it helps prevent chaffing of the cables & insulation on them due to vibration and rubbing. Having said that, if they are continually under mechanical tension that isn't a good thing either. Good luck.

Seems like the dealer would have noticed this problem on the test ride after assembly, etc. My dealer, D & H Cycle, takes a 10 mile check ride on each bike before the customer takes delivery. This dealer sold over 75 '05 FJRs so they know the in's and out's of assembly and checkout. I may be biased but I prefer dealers that assemble their bikes onsite with their own people rather than having an offsite assembler do the job. Somehow it seems quality control might be better.

When I picked up my FJR it had zero miles on it....so much for the dealer doing any kind of a test ride but on the other hand I know exactly how the engine has been treated as I have riden all the miles myself.

Did you check you trip odometer? My main odometer had zero miles on it, but the trip odometer had 1/10 on it. Guess my dealer is more thorough than yours.

Mine was!!

Everything worked when I left my dealer. I watched the build (have pictures) and watched the mechanic leave for the test drive.

When I picked up Feejer after electrical repairs my dealer noted that they have seen a lot of Yamaha harnesses where the pins were not fully seated in the connector bodies.

The service manager said they 'fiddled' with the wiring. The mechanic said that he pulled apart every associated connector and seated every pin in every connector and 3 pins went CLICK when he pressed them in.

Thanks fer sharin' Blue, these guys can be a little rough sometimes but they all are willin to help out as long as you can hang in there..its tough Feejer love brudda ! By the way the Blue in my name refers to my eyes, guitar playin and balls...not necessarily in that order. If I was you if this harness doesnt fix it make 'em get you another bike AND keep the aforementioned discounts goodies. Try to be nice though..our Benevolent Ruler and Lord had one repaired and this was WAY before Yammy was willin to admit anything was amiss...sorry..no pun intended. Keep us abreast of your situmation, and tell your Harley Buddies their putting some free chrome stuff on at the factory ! :D

My dealer and employees thought I was nuts for wanting to be there and taking as many pics as I did as they put her together. Glad to see I'm not the only one...

Sorry, still have to figure out how to get other peoples quotes in that little box

(oh no! does this mean I might have to read instructions???)

When I was waiting to take delivery of my bike, I was in the parking lot having a smoke when the tech. drove the bike around. I asked him how it rode and he replied," I ain't taking this thing out on the road, man."

I asked if he had confidence in his work. He said that wasn't the issue. It was that he was told by the service manager that they weren't allowed to test ride the sport bikes!!! That sure made me feel good. :erm:

Replace the WHOLE wire harness? WTF??

Would these morons knock down their house to get rid of ants?

This is the most foolish thing I have ever heard. There is clearly a problem, but it likely comes down to one or two items. Using a schematic and a volt-ohm meter I would go through each sensor at the ECU connector and find out what is awry. I bet it is the TPS anyway. That thing is a POS.

IMO, the motoman is a bad idea, too (sorry, I can't help myself!)

I think some gentle pushing is called for here :assasin: in regards to either applying the $300.00 towards a Yamaha dealer of your choice for the Y.E.S. or just giving you the Y.E.S. up front from Cypress. Giving you $300.00 towards the list price of Y.E.S. is like not giving you anything at all. Actually it is getting more $$$ from you in the long run!

I called yesterday and no harness yet. The new one is supposed to arrive tomorrow...

(just wish they had originally ordered or delivered the correct ABS one the first time)

Yamaha says it takes "long time" due to stricter import regulations after 9/11.

Anyway just so everyone is clear, the dealer/mechanic worked with Yamaha to narrow it down to a bad main wire harness...

All individual sensors checked out ok as well as the ECU… So confidence is high that the wire harness is the culprit… I HOPE

Time will tell. I will update when as I have resolution.

PS. the dealership is throwing in the YES for free (no profit above the $300 discount from Yamaha).

WOW, Whoopee… Just want this problem to go away… it has seriously dampened my enthusiasm.

PSS. will change my name to remove bad karma when the problem is fixed. I selected the name and posted after bike was in the shop…
