"The failsafe to that argument is to check the sight glass (and coolant reservoir) every gas stop - without fail.

Get into this habit and the oil level sensor circuit becomes redundant. You also can spot it right away if something changes suddenly."

If I'm on the highway, and I take a stone to the oil filter, if I don't notice the warm slippery feeling on my left foot, I want that "sorry it's already broke" light to light up.

The oil level switch's part# changed on the '06 FJR.

On the '05 and earlier the part# is 5JW-85720-00-00.

On the '06 and later the part# is 3P6-85720-00-00.

It would appear they made it a bit more sensitive. Maybe they changed the switch software in the display unit too. There's probably some time delay included in the software so you don't get the light for a momentary switch operation -- the float has to stay low for a few seconds before the light comes on.

Sometimes tweaks Yamaha includes in newer models cause them problems and headaches -- the clutch slave cylinder, the oil level switch, etc.

Dude, don't worry....IF you take that stone to the filter, your cam chain is gonna launch LONG before your back tire gets all slippery. :assassin:
