LV, Wyoming still is below 600,000 population (not 2 million).

One thing about Casper ... it is windy, especially to the north, west, and east (you can't go south, because there's a mountain there. :D )

Good luck on the job interview.

My mistake. I am not sure where my number came from. I like your number much better!

I rode my FJR acroos Wyoming one day. Started from Rapid City, SD and ended going over the Chief Joseph and Beartooth. I loved it and my FJR loved it. One of my best days ever.

Good luck with your life changes and I wish you many pleasant riding days in your new location.

We live in MT but get do WY a few times each year. The Big Horn Mountains, Yellowstone are and. SW WY are great riding areas.

If you want low population density go to AK. Over 6 times the size of WY with about 70,000 more people.

Anything from going for coffee, banking, grocery shopping. To 150-300 mile day trips. Longer weekend jaunts.
I think this is going to be your problem area. Out west on the FJR you will find your self going on a lot LONGER rides with no problem other than running out of time to ride. You still can run to coffee, banking and such, but will the expanse will definitely expand your 'day trips'!

I have been over the Beartooth Pass on a bike. Top of the World had what could be the best value in a cup of coffee anywhere.

I think it was seventy-five cents. It was summer but it was snowing up there and I was cold. I couldn't believe you could get a coffeee way up there for that price.

I always read about bikes. And I read about how some have character, or soul. For me, I like to push the button and have it run. I like my maintenance scheduled, not spontaneous. I like the little tweaks that Yamaha has done to the FJR. Funny one of the things I always liked was that little compartment on the left of the fairing. Just so convienent.

Ahhhh.....the cup holder! +1

Welcome to the Forum.

Lostviking, Good luck on your job prospect and finding a new venue!! If you settle in the Casper area make sure you ride over to Pinedale and visit the Corral Bar. Like many of the old western bars, they have something unique. Check it out!!!

Good luck on job interview. Wyoming would be a chance to re-invent myself, bet the same for you.

You say you might choose to live north of Casper ... hhmmm, given the Wyoming winters I'd consider living as close to the job as suitable housing allows.

Can you spell Subaru in your future?

Other thought going to a PM to you.

UHOH,

PM returned, valid thoughts!

I am somewhat familiar with winter,

We get our fair share of snow and cold weather here too,

It keeps life interesting. But by May I am usually ready to see some grass,

We have had a few from Subaru, nice rigs. But I like my Jeeps too,

A Subaru? What do you want him to stand out like some out of place easterner? If he wants to move to Wyoming he'll need a proper vehicle for the country.

Coffee @ Top of the World is only $1 now and just what I needed on the cold wet day of my first trip up there. Love that road.

Or 42 other states and 13 provinces or territories....also perfect. It might have to do with having "touring" in the model type....
OK, gotta ask: which state did you deem the FJR to be a bad choice of bike for

?
I don't think any state would be "bad".

I do believe his point is that you listed 7 states and that 42+7=49... Since the U.S. has 50 states, well, you get the idea.

A pretty good catch by our grouchy N.C. friend by the way. I confess that I missed it myself, math being one of my weaker subjects.

Well, I leave shortly.

Some interesting perspectives. With just enough humor thrown in to keep me chuckling.

And some very solid support for a solid motorcycle.

Thanks again to everyone for your feedback, support, and well wishes.

Win, lose or draw, I will update upon my return next week.

Thanks again,

LV,

Yep. And thanks. It's a blessing and a curse. I remember numbers that have no bearing whatsoever from 45 yrs ago. Things like: what was the license plate number of the car your mother drove in 1968? Dunno? I do. Sometimes it seems like I can't remember to wipe my own arse but I remember that....
