FJR in WY, MT, CO, SD, UT, ID, NM = perfect.
Or 42 other states and 13 provinces or territories....also perfect. It might have to do with having "touring" in the model type....
OK, gotta ask: which state did you deem the FJR to be a bad choice of bike for
uhoh.gif
?

Boy, that would be an ugly thread.... In Which State Does it Suck to Own a FJR?

I vote for.............?

HI LostViking

I'm planning I've planned a 2 week venture to Wyoming this July w 2 other biker-buds. I'm also from upstate NY (I know, we're all sorry on this account). Seeing these images of the Tetons^ sure gets my blood going and right about when I thought I could chill about this trip for awhile?... and then this appears! Thnx ;)

Being that I will have to take Interstates to reach S Dakota (in a timely manor), I'm really trying to avoid them in WY, ID, UT and CO. So "if" the limit goes 80, no biggie here so to speak.

Our main target/objective is a bit north of Casper however. If you wanna a map of our WY part of my planned trip...

4) Tues 7/21 Sturgis SD to Gillette WY: https://mapq.st/1AEWVGp
5) Weds 7/22 Gillette WY to Bozeman MT: https://mapq.st/1Auqhab
6) Thurs 7/23 Bozeman MT to Billings MT: https://mapq.st/1vLMX1i
7) Fri 7/24 Billings MT (MOA)
8) Sat 7/25 Billings MT (MOA) Morning Excursion: https://mapq.st/pQYvmI
9) Sun 7/26 Billings MT to Columbia Falls MT: https://mapq.st/1qT6Bg7
10) Mon 7/27 Columbia Falls MT to Rexburg ID: https://mapq.st/1zgspWa

I suggest that on the ride #6 from Bozeman to Billings that you take HWY 78 out of Red Lodge up to I90. HWY 78 is much less traveled, good surface and with several long, high speed sweepers. I have never seen a Trooper on 78. Stop at the Dew Drop In in Absarokee for their battered and fried mushrooms. HWY 212 north out of Red Lodge can have a great deal of traffic and is generally a straight and uninspiring road. All the cruisers headed to and from clogging up Beartooth Pass will be on 212.

I'll be at the MOA rally as well.

I also suggest that on ride #1 from Sturgis to Sundance that when yo leave Devil's Tower and head towards HWY 14 that you go east on 14 towards Sundance rather than Moorcroft.

This is just coming out of the Big Horns. Not even a full tank of gas to get here from Casper.

This is the right bike but I am kinda biased, like the others on here may be.

Cool, would be fun to ride up to Billings and tail your ride on Saturday the 25th. Not sure about the kitchen pass though, wife might have something to say.

After riding a couple of C-14s I said IF I lived in a Western State I'd probably go to a C-14 for the taller gearing. That's the only reason I'd switch from my old Gen 1. As long as most of my riding is confined to east of the Miss. River, with the exception of Ark. I'm content with the current equipment. Plus I have a taller tired GW in the garage for the wider spaces.

I don't wanna take over 'Vikings thread. I made adjustments to our Itinerary, so I wanna direct you to this Montana trip thread for that jibber-jabber. Mucho thanks :)

Sitting in the Denver Airport. Meeting the new potential employers for dinner.

Hope they are understanding sorts. At the 14 hour mark now. Getting ready to board my third plane for Casper.

Most likely look and smell like a long day.

I will read all the new posts soon and respond accordingly.

-6 at my home this morning.

LV,

Born in Wyoming and raised and went to school and college in Casper. I agree with the above posts what state is a bad state to own a fjr? Good riding area able to open it up with less risk than a lot of states. Quick ride up casper mountain in the summer or out to alcova, pathfinder lakes. Close to beartooth pass and Yellowstone park. Hope wind does not upset you because it blows often there. If you like to hunt its a good area, lots of antelope. If you desire to go to Sturgis, mount rushmore then you would be close also.

Hawaii. Lived there and while beautiful it isn't exactly "touring" country. It's small, heavy traffic and difficult to drive between islands!

Yeah, I thought that was the obvious answer. Hawaii just doesn't have enough open space for an FJR and it makes a lousy surfboard. Wyoming, OTOH is a perfect FJR place.

But hey... Lost Viking... this isn't you is it?

That Techno Viking (wiki link) video was pretty big a few years ago.

I just liked the chick at the beginning with the cool turquoise hair. She's really groovin' to da beat.

the chick was groovin, the others dancing were atleast trying....the viking was pretty jacked and did the part well

But, but, but... He's a Viking!

I never realized that you could tell the good fighters by how well they dance. I never saw Chuck Norris do a decent Samba. ;)
