RenoJohn and I tore up The One on the way back, just like OV and I did on the way down.........absolutely no traffic !!!!!

Great to see all those bums from Socal !! :p

Anyone heard from John? It snowed in the Sierras all day and they were supposed to get another 2 feet overnight. It isn't looking good for him getting back to Reno unless this lets up and he can get over Hwy 70, Beckworth Pass being only 5'000 ft.

Edit, 0630: I seem to remember he's spending the night somewhere and riding home today. It still isn't looking good for I-80.

Really enjoyed the ride and the company. Hope everyone made it home safe. See ya next time.

The 58 was sweeeeeeeeet, the rolling hills were like a roller coaster a little over 55 mph. :D

Mr. Highlander. --Thanks again for the fun! Holy cow that was some good riding. Spirited yet safe ride up hwy1 ..my first time on that section. Can't thank you enough. As you know, it started raining good as soon as we split in santa Cruz ...I took your advice and really enjoyed my evening in Scotts Valley. Cute little place and met some nice folks .....some good food and caught up on needed sleep as the rain pounded all night long!
Damn, that was good fun, ...thanks for the spirited riding, the silliness and for the chance to leave some peg-feelers on the CA coast. We need to ride more bud. Next time I'll play mine-sweep (as you did yesterday) and we'll continue the fun and smiles.

...and the story goes like this:

This morning I was slow getting out on the road ...as I kept waiting for the rain to break and knew I'd just be taking the easy way home due to the weather. ....but by 9:00a I figured I better get going. Rode rain all the way to Auburn where I stopped for fuel and to get a survey of the road situations. As I got off the bike, my camera fell out of the map pocket of my 'stich ...(same pocket I keep my cel phone) ..as i dug in, no cel phone. S@#%T!!. Fell out somewhere along the way.

Weather bad Turns out I-80 closed to trucks and talked to some skiers who headed back because the weather was so bad they closed the ski resorts ....they were in 4X4 and had to chain up. F@#K I said to myself.

No real options, grabbed a motel here in Forestvile (just up from Auburn) (internet access in lobby) ....now looking for a place to keep my bike for a few days as getting over the sierras is not an option on theh bike (even for me and me).

Fortunate timing though: Kathy and her motorcycle gang just got off a week long mexican cruise that landed in Long Beach this morning and are on their way back to Reno in a 4X4 ....so I'll squeeze in with that pack of girls when they come through Auburn late tonight.

Meanwhile, looking for a place to leave the FJR for a few days until the sierras open and I can come back down and get it.

Anyone know of a anyone in the Auburn Area who might be able to let my dirty as F@&K FJR loiter in their garage for a few days?? ....

renojohn would be much appreciated. So would my derelict bike.

Motel 530-885-1800 Rm 108 (Don't send hookers unless you pre-pay LOL) but feel free to call if you know of a place to leave the bike.

stupid and stuck in auburn ...renojohn (with no cel phone!)

What a glorius day to ride the bike.

First I want to thank each and everyone of you who joined our ride Saturday for a quick lunch in Morro Bay.

Wifey comments: "You mean you went all the way to Morro Bay to have Fish? We have Fish in the freezer!!" :)

Left residence around 7 am, met the guys at the 5 Bucks coffee at around 8 am.

A quick ride up on the 101 to meet the rest of the gang at the Chevron. TWN lead the way up the 101 then to 154 by Lake Cachuma then off to Foxen Canyon Road which by the way was spectacular. Not only it was real, but it was spectacular.

John, I just left a message on your long lost cell phone. Glad you're O.K.

I also left a message for Andrew.

1.) John, I left you a message on your room phone. No room at the inn here at my place, but there are others and Toecutter is trying to call as I type.

2.) CA highway info shows Hwy 70 is open, but its 37 degrees in Quincy so if you are going to try that option you'd better get moving before the temps drop.

Forgot to mention. That was a nail in my tire and it went all the way thru, started hissing as soon as I pulled on it a little. Stuck a plug in it, does anyone know if it's cool to run a bike tire with a plug??

Especially when its not in the center of the tread. Yours is about 2/3 from the center to the outside edge. Many on the forum have run such a repair until the end of the tread life. If you're anal or uncomfortable simply replace the tire.

I called John. If nothing better comes up, he's got a garage and ride back to Auburn from me.
Thanks Andrew. John called to say he'd talked with you. We discussed the Hwy 70 option and decided it was too late for him to head over there before the afternoon/evening temps began to drop (Ice would be a problem. ).

:clapping: :clapping: Orangie, you da' man! :clapping: :clapping:

Apparently someone else is da man. John called and he found someone closer to Auburn so that he doesn't have to inconvenience me...not that I minded a bit!!!

It's good to see so many pictures making it to this thread. Now I feel guilt for not posting up yet. I haven't even taken my pics from the memory stick and put them on the computer we use for that yet...I guess I'll go do that now.

I'm starting to be very envious you guyz with high speed connections at the house. I'll post up pix mananna when 1gB is available. For now, a big THANKS to Big Dolma for starting the ride, BmwBrick (yeah, I know, I got it wrong) I enjoyed watching you twist that Beemer in the corners...; Red, you ride the FJR good, and I hope you all enjoyed Turri Canyon road. If up here again, PM me, would be happy to show some other back roads too.

As it turned out, Patrick was close, convenient and and easy spot for kathy and her motorcyle gang to pick me up. Thanks OVfjr for the offer and Big thanks to Patrick for stowing my bike

....and for your entertainment value: kathy and the gang came by ahead of schedule in the 4wd and ....we started up the hill but I-80 is closed. Caltrans etc says not closed but the truth is a parking lot. spoke with many who have just come over and they have spent 10+hours getting over the summit. They say east-bound is even worse. So, back in Auburn and a big slumber party here at the motel. LOL .....looks like tomorrow before we give another run at it.

Thanks again Patrick and A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE HERE ON THE FORUM FOR YOUR HELP. the response was overwhelming with offers of help. Living in Reno, and riding this time of year you always take chances on getting home. This weekend looked better than most when I left on Friday....but it sure changed. such is life, but I got lucky with kathy coming through with the 4wd ...and with Patrick stowing my derelict fjr for a while. All is good.

......from the slumber party in reno ....john

PS: Great pics and how nice it was to see the ocean and that warm weather ...short but sweet!

Want to thank everyone for a great ride. Being new to CA I'm really amazed at the beauty of of the area and seeiing the sites on bike is a whole new expeience. I am trying to post pictures but no having much luck. I ill figure it out tomorrow, I hope. I look forward to the next excursion as I am sure it will be just as good. Great bunch of people. Also, trying to keep up with you guys on the FJR vs the HD experience I've had on in the past  raises the pucker factor big time.
