FJR gas tanks double-wall?

As much as I loath it, social media may be your friend here. Go public with it on their Facebook page, if they Twitter, go ape there too. Let it be known that, as you said, one of the 2 guys was an employee and you were a prospective customer that, not only has that dealership lost, but so has HD corporate.

Are VRods Harleys

Some of my HD friends won't claim it as such, same for the Sportster. Oh Well - I love the VRod.
It's a transition Harley. It's for those folks who aren't quite ready to commit to an air cooled leaky paint shaker.

Black Diamond in Marion, IL has always been pretty good to me. I often window shop, and participate in a several of their events each year. They have even mounted and balanced a tire or two for me that I carried in. Never had a problem with them or with most Harley riders I meet. I have even ridden a couple HD's that I liked.
Sorry your experience has been different. I would be upset if that happened to me as well.
Friend of mine invited me to go with him to a party for one of his coworkers. Turns out it was at a Harley bar. He on his Buell, me on my gixxer. There was one other metric bike there, but it was like a 1970's Kawasaki so it had some "Classic bike" cred to go with it. I ended up hanging out at the party in my yellow and black Dianese jacket the whole evening and everyone was surprisingly nice to me and my bike.

Sorry this happened to you and you were unable to get any satisfaction from the dealer or Harley.

Like others have said though, I've been to many HD dealerships, rallys, special dealer events and rides on my FJR and never had any problems. Most of the folks are normal people that just like riding, same as me. Every now and then I'll get a "when are you going to buy a Harley?" comment, but its never threatening. I test rode a few Harleys at a rally and it was a very positive experience, just like Jasen said.

Thanks all!

My intent was not a Harley bash but, this incident removed all interest in their product. A lot of people love them and a lot of people who love them are good.

I was very happy to discover info about our tanks. Years ago, when I rode sportbikes, I was told tanks are double walled.

Dent guy says it should come out fine for $50.

While the experience was positive, hopping back on my Japanese motorcycle (FZ1) for the ride home made me grin and love my well built, comfortable, performance machine.

I've ridden a couple Harleys. Lots of positive comments from Harley riders. Some negative, mostly regarding a "Jap" bike, biy never anyone ballsey enough to vandalize my ride.

My buddy has a Road Glide...I think. Its a HUGE cruiser with fairing and bags. Shakes like Hell at idle, but under power, it is very smooth and comfortable. Grinds on the leans too fast for me, but its very good for its intended purpose.

My first cop bike was a Harley Dyna 1200. Was always reliable and did what I needed. I've ridden the VRods and really like them. They sorta wind up like a jet.

I'd like to see th VRod motor put into a S-T chassis.

Did my run with HD brand back in the early 90's. Followed with 10 years of Gold Wings. Let someone borrow my 03 for a spin and followed along on their Shadow. He started pulling away, so I whacked the throttle. It got louder but not faster. Made me very glad of my bike choice.

What's worse is when you ride your bagger in a so-called HOG event and get forcibly TOLD you WILL ride at the BACK of the pack because that's where BAGGERS ride in this GROUP. The idea is the customs ride out front, as they are the top of the pecking order. Baggers in back.

..Yeah, I rode in the back of the pack for 4 miles. Then when I saw blown apexes, crossed centerlines, and yards of skin exposed said **** convention and rode thru the herd to the front of the pack. Yes, the customs were pissed off beyond belief, especially since I toyed with them and their POS evil handling loud assed so called motobikes. Then I motored away to prove I could. Then I let them catch back up. Then I motored away for good and have NEVER been to another HOG or other HD ride again.

..and I own one, a 91 UltraClassic with 130k on the clock.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I will say that not ALL HD riders are posers as I described above. I know of many who are freaking good riders and they ride. It's just hard to find them.

Sorry to hear about you're bad experience at ABC Harley. I'm always stopping in there on my "Jap" bike, never had a problem. The people always seemed friendly and willing to shoot the bull about bikes if not busy. That being said, I have noticed a change in the demeanor of the dealership since the original owner retired and his son took over. The old man was a genuine bike guy, I traded my ZX12R in for a road king classic. He wanted the ZX for his own personal collection.

Glad to hear your tank may be repaired. And really sad to hear that some ****** HD guys would actually do something like that. Shoulda' bought a Harley? Why? So you could be an ****** too?

But, not having seen the dents, I do want to throw out one other possibility, and that is that the asshats might not have been lying, they may not have out the dents there. There are some documented cases where gas tanks have developed a high vacuum in them when the ventilation device in the gas cap gets plugged or stuck. The partial implosion of the tank might look like someone punched it.

This, and the gas geysers that also happen when the tanks become pressurized, is the reason I came up with the gas cap castration modification to remove the small steel ball bearing check valve from the gap and eliminate pressure issues in the tank.

If you post a picture of the dents we can probably see if this was a possibility or if it was some knuckles for sure.

Just thought it was worth throwing this out as a possibility even if it may be the less likely scenario.

Also be interested to see some before and after photos of the paintless dent repair. I happen to know of another '04 with a tank dent that the owner might like to follow suit on if it works well for you.

I find the HD guys down south much freindlier and willing to talk with other bike makes. Up hear in the commonwealth they are a stubborn bunch and won't give you the time of day. Could just be a new england thing thow. I did go into the valley of death last summer just to take a look at what the New HD dealer had to show off. I walked in took a look around and then left. Not one person asked if I needed any heip. Full ATGATT I was for sure out of place.

A pretender in the land of real riders, they only serve serious riders. It was obvious that you wouldn't be able to handle the power of a real motorcycle.
