Would it make sense to have these ( NAFO, EOM, CFO. Ect) during the week? Say tues, wed, thurs.? This way you would have plenty time to travel to and from they event. Less traffic...

For me, there are events I would like to attend, but not enough time to make it there before it starts, and home in time for work on Monday. Use a week of vacation, and enjoy the whole trip..

I can see if you live close this would not be a issue. But if your 1000 miles away you stay home or have to slab both ways in a big hurry.

Just thinking out loud..

Because some of us have jobs, and for the people who are a days ride away, it causes them to burn much more vacation than a Thursday-Sunday gig.

We actually tried that for SW-FOG once. Well Don, and the other 12 people who could go tried it.

I've expressed this same sentiment for years and its fallen

on deaf ears. Organizers typically pick a time and location

that's convenient for them and everyone else has to deal.

I've attended national events that were 1,000s of miles from

home because they were on Tues, Wed, Thurs and I could

bookend two weekends to get there and back.

This minimizes the time off from work and maximizes my

time on the road: 5 days PTO = 9 days travel.

I have never been to EOM because I can't do 1600 miles

over a weekend.

I'm looking forward to EOM in Lewisburg next year.

It will be my first.

But other events that I'll consider for 2015 will need to be

within one day's ride if they're over a weekend.

Back when I earned an honest living, I could hit a Thursday - Sunday rally within a few hundred miles from home and only take two or two and a half vacation days. If it'd been a mid-week rally, I'd have had to take at least four. Now that I'm retired, it doesn't matter, but I suspect most of us still work.

Of course the organizers pick times and places where it's convenient for them. But the last one I attended was discussed for some time and a time / place was planned that worked for the most people. It worked out that Thursday - Saturday worked best for the most people.

+1, Gunny; as much as it pains me to have to agree with 'Zilla, AJ is right about this being a disaster for Big-D and BeemerDonS.

We normally get in excess of 50 people for SW-FOG in Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada! Midweek Attempt: 13!

Agree, but the best part is there are gatherings spread about the US making travel much less than just one central location.

I totally agree that there are lots of places to chose from, and us losers that have to work can't make more than a couple of them anyway.

Regarding long distance rallys, it doesn't matter when they are held. It's gonna take time to ride there and home. This last EOM trip, Patch and I took 6 days off work with 4 weekend days mixed in, for a total of 10 days. Rally days would have made no difference there.

However, SW-FOG and SFO are usually easy day rides from here. Meaning I can leave on Wednesday or Thursday and only take a couple days off work. If it's a weekday rally, I have to take the whole week off with a weekend wasted on each end. It's way less efficient for a close rally, and let's be honest: most of the attendees of area rallys live within a day of the meet. There's only a few that run high miles to meets, and there's even fewer that can do more than one per year.

Is Hooterville gonna be a midweek gathering next fall?

Just kidding...those that are 1500 miles away from an event would benefit from midweek I know. Most of the times, events have never been close by. My typical SOP, depending on time off, is to take the early part of the week to explore on the way to the meet...getting to the meet Thursday pm...riding Fri/Sat and blasting home Sunday. If it's really far, I will head back Sat and Sunday.

No can do, dang it. Spring and summer is when I make hay, that's why I usually can only do fall gatherings that are out of state.

Or just take two weeks off and ride the long way there and back

6,725 miles to EOM and back. Damn that was fun. Now I have to figure out how to get time off to bring my KTM to Hooterville.
