The FJR Comparison Matrix on here lists a 'Ground Clearance' of approx. 5 inches. Does any one on here know where that measurement was taken? Perhaps under the rear shock mounting point?

Just curious.

This should help.

The ground clearance measurement was taken at the lowest point.

Or....if that's a geographical question, I have no idea what specific location, or even what continent said measurement was taken on.

You're welcome.

(Oh, sorry, it's not Friday yet.........)

I know for certain that one end of the tape measure was on the ground.

I would guess as the raccoon suggested, at the lowest point.

Since my FJR is rarely used for jumping logs or deep mud I have not given this much thought. I do take my time going in and out of some parking lots if the curb is high but I have yet to get off my bike to measure the curb. Also, my fat butt, sorry, Gravity Challenged body compresses the suspension enough that an unladen measurement is moot. The bike is rarely if ever moving forward without me on it.

Can I ask why you need this information?

It depends on the size of the coconut you're trying to clear and size of the African Swallow you're carrying as pillion....and whether you're inhaling or exhaling.

I doubt anybody knows the answer as Yamaha didn't publish any asterisk or explanation...just the figure.

I also know the headers usually hit first.

It *should* be the lowest point, but considering your static sag should be about 2", so it's really only 3"..

Well I 'think' I have my answer! LOL I knew all the brain trusts on here would have an answer!

Seriously, the reason I was asking is the following:

1) Long ago I removed the factory exhaust system and replaced it with straight headers.

2) Also, a while ago I installed adjustable rear links to enable slightly lowering the rear suspension. I have a rough Idea how much lower I set it by comparing the length of stock 'dog bone' links to the length of the adjustable links I have now installed. However, to properly set the height of the front suspension (the amount the forks extend above the triple clamp), I'm trying to determine where the factory number of 5.1 inches is measured for the advertised ground clearance. It's probably below the factory headers some where.

Thanks for the help ya all. I guess I'll carry on. LOL

BTW, I'm also assuming the quoted 5.1 inches is with the bike unladen and not with some chubby rider aboard. LOL
