This is a little different. No twisties, or mountain vistas.

(It’s been snowin’ like hell up there.)

Instead I rode the hour or so to the nearest coastal city, and buzzed around,

and stopped about a hundred times, and snapped a bunch of pictures

with my point and shoot.

Traveling around a large, busy city is a whole different experience on a motorcycle.

I don’t really enjoy doing it in a car, but it’s a blast on a bike.

You can slice through traffic, stop and park when there’s nowhere to stop or park,

and look at all the beautiful women through your tinted shield. You see everything,

smell everything, and feel everything.

San Francisco in unique in a lot of ways, but I love it most for the terrain.

Hills! Many of the streets have surprisingly steep inclines. You really can't tell

from the photos. It's something you really need to experience. And because

it's so hilly you can see up or down most streets for blocks. And the

cable car tracks aren't really much of a hazard. And...

Okay. Enough text. Here are the piccies.

(Yes, there's a stinkin' bike in almost every pic. That's what I do. No control over it.)

And when you're spending the afternoon in a city with

thousands of fantastic restaurants, this is what a dork has for lunch.

They're building us a new Bay Bridge. It's an incredible bit of engineering.

And a look back from Yerba Buena Island before heading home.

Just before I put away my camera and pointed my feej for home,

another FJR pulls up! The purple year!

fjrshanta from Livermore!

We chatted a bit and he let me take his picture.

(He insisted I promise him I'd not include a smart-assed caption.)

Great meeting you Sean.

Looking at that jacket made my ears bleed. Cripes it's loud amigo!

I know most of these images are old hat for the locals, but I figured

if you're one of my snowed-in, Stabil-in-your-tank brothers, you'd enjoy looking at 'em.

Thank you.

This was in my ears on the way home.

An old playlist.

A very good day.

I drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after 2 a.m.

And talked a little while about the year

I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower,

Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe

Maybe this year will be better than the last

I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself

To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyon

And it's one more night in Hollywood

It's been so long since I've seen the ocean...

I guess I should

Hmmm..............

Nice piccies and all, but your FJR looks a bit GHEY if you get my drift. :****: Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Actually, you bring back some fond memories of the 07 IBR where I criss-crossed downtown San Fran looking for bonii. Now I have been to SF several times in the distant past, but never on a bike. I really enjoyed getting to ride around city for the first time. I'll see if I can dig up some photos.

Edit: Found those photos. Ahhhh, what great memories. Good times for sure.

great pics, lets do wfo there.that would be kick ***

seriously!

Great pics OM.

Did you make it to A T & T Park, home of the Giants and (new) home of the Big Unit? Ya gotta love a guy that everybody calls the big unit - no doubt makes for great introductions in bars/clubs.

SF is a beautiful city, and this summer I'm gonna use the company tiks and ride Francisco to watch the Giants - normally I take the cage the 200 miles to the game.

I almost feel sorry for our forum members whose bikes are tucked away for the frozen winter. Me, I flyfished the Kings River Sat afternoon and took a short ride Sunday afternoon on the feejer - Cali is the place to be for me.

See ya on Hiway 49 soon!

Thanks for the great pics OM!! San Fran is one of my favorite cities. I find a reason to go there every couple of years. I havent been there on a bike yet. Maybe that will be my excuse this year!!!

B)

Nice picts, thanks. It looks to this flatlander that much care is needed in picking a bike parking spot.

Much thanks OM, maybe someday I'll get down that way. I owe you a beer for taking me away from the cold 'n snow for a little bit.

While you were exploring SF, this was going on outside my Apt window.

Construction last year found a culvert blocked, water backed up, flooded the roads after about 2" of rain and +5C temps. That night, temps dropped down to -25C (again). The resultant ice buildup made it nearly impassable. Backhoe showed up to clean up the mess.

Only 3 more months .. only 3 more month... 90 days... pfft.. thats easy....

... help!

OM-Great Pics! You're pretty damn good with that point-n-shoot camera. I am one of the Stabil-in-the-tank-brothers and these photos come at the right time. Here's what I woke up to this morning, after riding yesterday for about 3 hours in 35 F and sunny...

Ohhh, and thanks for the tune (you bastich) I'm going to be humming that the rest of the day :D

Nice Piccies, OM!.

Thanks, from another of the "snow-bound" ones. I won't bore you with the pictures of swirling snow outside my window right now.

They take me back to my own old times. I spent a nice winter in the Bay area in 1979, when I was training at Mare Island. We made several forays into San Francisco. Lot's of cool vistas and historical places. Too many damn humans though, IMO.

I preferred heading up North into the (less populated) hills.

Oh well, time to go clear the driveway... :( (ref. avatar)
