I'm an old guy and don't enjoy heat. Crossing the deserts in the SW at 105 deg my Gen 2 was just fine by me. I don't think of this bike as being excessively hot. I live in Florida and in the dead of summer I have no complaints about the heat from the bike.

I was taking a close look at a Tiger Explorer in a parking lot one morning. It was one of a group of Triumph Tigers. The guy riding an 800 came over and we chatted. He said the Explorer put out a lot more heat then the 800 he was riding and more than the Gen 1 FJR he used to ride. I know it's subjective, but I immediately lost interest in the Explorer.
I put about 2K miles on a rented Tiger Explorer this summer. I wouldn't say it's hot, certainly no more so than my genII FJR. The only time I noticed a bit of heat was in stopped traffic on the motorway when the fans would come on. The temp then was 30C, so about 86ish degrees. Otherwise I never noticed any heat while riding, at slow speeds through towns, or when starting off after a coffee stop.

Really? and that motor is uncovered??
Yea, but it's all about the airflow. It's my presumption that the air around the headers has nowhere to go because of the motor being in the way, so it dumps out around the side of the motor, right onto your leg. My legs were pretty red and sore the one time I wore shorts under my mesh pants on my FZ1 in the middle of summer. I've worn shorts under the same pants many times on the FJR and had no complaints.

I'm new to the FJR (2013). With only 800 miles on it, mostly in 85-90 degree temperatures, I would say it is a bit warm at times. Nothing that will limit riding and it is limited to fairly low speeds. I base my opinion on comparing it to my other four bikes which are all Beemers, none of which are fully faired bikes..

I have a Sprint ST 1050 that I ride when the FJR runs low on petrol. The Sprint isn't too hot on your legs while riding, even at city speeds. But when stopped with your feet down, your legs go from beside the fairing to behind the fairing, where the frame is more open. Mucho heat pours out of that opening, the bike is very hot on your legs while stopped. So I agree, it's all about airflow and where the air carries the heat.

I've worn shorts ... many times on the FJR and had no complaints.
except from innocent bystanders?
Nice!
