Getting to know my bike. I was wondering if the fuel level sensor was part of the fuel pump that is inside the tank?

I just purchase a set of Shinko 009 Raven tires. And plan on doing all the work my self mount & balance. But i do have a few qestions.

Like is there a mark or something on these tires that tell me the direction to mount?

Balancing? Is one side or end of tire to be mounted away from valve stem? How do you know?

If I remove the rear wheel axel and right side spacer will the wheel come off with out pulling apart the rear gear trany?

Removing the front wheel looks like a no brainer.

OK! NOW I KNOW SOME OF YOU WILL JUMP ALL OVER ME AND SAY GO READ FOR GOD SAKE.

Yes im searching for info. OK?

Your answers to your questions are already written up for you and me at FJRTech website. I look at it all the time when I'm gonna do something to the bike.

Yes, go read for God sake. We include a link to FJRTech.com on the forum. That's a huge resource for those thinking about working on their own bike. Many of your questions are answered there.

And if you're thinking about mounting and balancing tires yourself, but asking basic questions about what might fall off or not and haven't actually removed a wheel yourself yet.....you should really try and get to visit somebody who has done this stuff before.

One thing that might be harder to find searching...yes the fuel level sensor is part of the pump assembly inside the tank.

Are you getting soft Iggy?
For the record I did go to the FJR Tech site. And did my reading. Befor any of you posted on my qestions.

And I do have alot of experience working on motorcycles as well as many other things.

My experience over the years is; its a fool that thinks he/she knows everything. And there is no other way to do something.

So why not ask qestions? You never know maybe someone else on this form might be knolageble. And have different views.

I gess im not understanding why this form is on the web.

Oldboy,
This is an interesting video by NoMar on Installing tires:

Rear Wheel Removal:

Front Wheel Removal:

This should be a good start for ya.
This is what the forum should be about. Others helping others no matter how many times a question is asked. Sometimes it seems things are so easy to find but when you are a new member sometimes they need a little help. :clapping: Good for you '03HiYoSilver.

The tires will have an arrow on the side wall that is the direction of rotation. That will determine how they are mounted. So, the answer to your most basic question is YES, there is a mark on the tire.

On some tires there is a "paint dot" that is supposed to be mounted at the valve stem. There is some question about that being the heavy part of the rim. In another thread on the forum some owners have put their bare rim on the static balancer and found that the rims are not balanced.

Removing the front wheel looks like a no brainer.
Just keep the parts in order. The calipers must come off the bike so make sure the pistons are compressed so that they easily slip back over the discs for re-assembly.AND...make sure the ABS spacer is aligned on the pins that locate them.

OK! NOW I KNOW SOME OF YOU WILL JUMP ALL OVER ME AND SAY GO READ FOR GOD SAKE.
For God's sake, man....go read! ;)

You know very well I did do my search befor I posted.

I post to learn more. Not to insult anyone.

But im not about to take sh--t from anyone.

So if i called someone an A--word. Im sure they were asking for it.

Point is I don't realy care to wast my time on people that like to use a form to just insult others.

So in the future I will just ignore them. ok?

Oops. I forgot!

If I remove the rear wheel axel and right side spacer will the wheel come off with out pulling apart the rear gear trany?
Yes, but first you will have to remove the torque bar to the rear brake caliper so the caliper assembly will come off. Then, once you pull the axle, the spacer will drop and the wheel assembly will slide right, off the drive splines, and drop out.

Make sure the bike's center stand is on a 2x4 so there is enough space to clear the fender and roll the wheel out.

I posted 10 minutes after your post...you must be a fast reader. :clapping:

...and what was unhelpful about pointing you to the well written articles at FJRTech? They are my helpful resource....sorry you didn't appreciate them or my advice. :glare: ...why did I help???

Hey Oldboy, from one relatively new guy to another, some of these guys are really unfriendly.

I have been a member of seven other forums in the past, and the effective ones foster relationships and camaraderie. The ineffective ones, I suppose, are meant to be used as an encyclopedia while avoiding any personal interaction (save the flaming new guys and whining about the lack of color choices).

When I bought the FJR, I wanted a rocketship that I could sit on for four or five hours without having to visit a chiropractor afterward, and I got a lot more than I bargained for with this incredible motorcycle. But that's only half the experience. I was also looking forward to getting to know, and build relationships with a new group of guys, that could probably teach me a thing or two along the way. This was the letdown for me. After two months of ownership, I'm already looking at my next move, to the GL1800.

Those guys love to talk.

Stop searching and go outside and ride man! Good luck to you!

Watch out. Some of these new guys aren't getting the love that they seem to feel they deserve.

Evidently, they feel that this free forum is here only to serve them and answer whatever question they have regardless of whether or not they put any effort at all into helping themselves. Somehow they feel that even if a question has been answered before and an outstanding search function is available, they should be able to log in, post a question and just come back and pick up their answer.

Some seem to think that even though members like Igancio have posted more than 5,500 times they aren't providing the level of service that the $0.00 that was paid is worth.

Where is this sense of entitlement coming from?

I'm new too but... I kind of like the abuse, and it makes for fun reading. If you can't handle a little ribbing this might not be the best place for you. :dribble:

A little thin skinned are we?

Hey Oldboy, from one relatively new guy to another, some of these guys are really unfriendly.
An alternative viewpoint might be that some of them have a rather droll sense of humor. Most of the input isn't nearly as abusive as it is some atempt at humor.

Yes, they forget how difficult it was to find the information when they were new to any of the FJR websites but since I know many of the members here and have read most of the comments, I'd offer my alternative thought: Most of these members are absolutely wonderful people. Their "on-screen" persona isn't an accurate representation/

Do they get carried away sometimes? Absolutely. Would I change the format and thereby change the information, comraderie or friendships I've made over the years? Not on your life.

I have been a member of seven other forums in the past, and the effective ones foster relationships and camaraderie. The ineffective ones, I suppose, are meant to be used as an encyclopedia while avoiding any personal interaction (save the flaming new guys and whining about the lack of color choices).
From this sentence I assume you are flaming the FJR Forum for not fulfilling your needs? Since this website is "ineffective" in your estimation, why are you not a force for positive change by answering the questions owners answer rather than complaining about the methosds of others. Y'know, that old proverb about "Lighting a candle rather than yelling at the darkness"......

When I bought the FJR, I wanted a rocketship that I could sit on for four or five hours without having to visit a chiropractor afterward, and I got a lot more than I bargained for with this incredible motorcycle. Perhaps you should have prefaced your introduction to the forum with that exact thought. Interestingly, I have made many long-term friendships surrounding my FJR purchase. The websites surrounding this platform have provided many opportunities to meet and ride with a wonderful assortment of humanity. Of course, I've only owned FJRs since '03 and don't have your 2 months of expereince. In the first 3 months of ownership I had been to WFO-2 in Santa Rosa and 3 or 4 group rides in the local area. Meeting these folks "face-to-face" and discussing the FJR and sharing life has been a great experience for me.Perhaps the real issue doesn't involve the other owners?

Those guys love to talk.
That's been my experience with the FJR owners. Since I have planned and led group rides, I always have to allot 30-45 minutes for a rest stop because getting folks to break off the conversation and actually ride is sometimes like herding cats. Maybe I fell into a really social group of people! Good luck with the next group of motorcycle owners you inflict your presence on.

Stop searching and go outside and ride man! Good luck to you!
But that answer really isn't very helpful if he needs to change tires and do some basic maintenance. Or is that YOUR droll attempt at humor rather than giving the proper advise/answer to his initial questions? :dribble:

Maybe you should do your homework or maybe I'm reading this wrong. :dribble:

Igancio is the Admin and as far as I know, him and the few other Admins own this Forum. SO YES THEY can set the rules up anyway they want (which I have yet to think unreasonable) because answering the same questions over and over again waste their web site's resources that they PAY MONEY FOR!!!!!!!! So damn it, appreciate what we have and the work they have done to provide this website.
