This will definately be of interest to the R1 folks and hopefully mean a resolve in the near future to the FJR stumbling, surging problems.

It's from https://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page...5022&Page=1

Yamaha Motor Corporation voluntarily acknowledged the problem in a May 23, 2007, Tech Exchange bulletin which stated that '07 YZF-R1 owners needed to wait until June 6, 2007 for a solution to be developed.

Since that time the crafty Yamaha engineers pinpointed the acceleration problem and have determined that some ECUs were affected with the gremlin due to manufacturing intolerance issues. 2007 R1 owners that are suffering the acceleration problem are advised to contact their local Yamaha dealer. Once the dealer has the opportunity to diagnose the bike and make sure it is free from any other outstanding fuel delivery or ignition issue, your Yamaha dealer can then order a replacement ECU and swap-out the unit free of charge.

MotorcycleUSA.com sampled an R1 with the new updated ECU during our trip to the R1-Forum.com annual Deal's Gap rendezvous - and it does rectify the acceleration lag problem and enables the R1 to accelerate flawlessly. As with many things in life, the first try at something might not always be successful. At least the Tuning Fork squad has found the problem and developed an easy plug-and-play solution to make your R1 perform like it was intended to.

"manufacturing intolerance issues. " ????

That is a steaming fresh pile. Gimme a break. They farged up the software, shipped the product anyway, got taken to task, now they gotta fix it.

This emissions thing for bikes is stupid ridiculous anyway. What is the percentage of smoke bikes contribute to the atmosphere compared to cars, anyway?
