I reviewed the poll results and it looks like folks here prefer the Michelin PR2 (front and rear) followed closely by the by the Michelin PR3. Is that the general consensus here? My '08 came with lightly-worn Metzlers and they seem average at best and have seemed to wear quickly (I've put about 1500 miles on the bike in 8 months and they seem shot to me). I don't know much about motorcycle tires (I am much more comfortable picking car/truck tires), but I know Michelins are generally great for wear, long-term value. I need a new set - front and rear. About me: I'm a weekend warrior - not a constant commuter or road-tripper. I observe (for the most part

) posted speed limits, but I like the twisties. I occasionally commute to our office in Northridge, CA 90 miles away, but spend most of time looking to experience the bike in gears 2-4. I don't mind spending $ for good stuff. I want the best, safe, reliable handling that will last. Recommendations and rationale appreciated.

Also looking for a ride buddies in SoCal/Central Coast area!

Cheers...

Yea PR2 is good for dry.. good traction and long wearing, and they don't cup. That is what I run here in SoCal. PR3's if you want but not wet enough here to justify the extra cost IMHO. Now can we get on to important stuff like what oil to use?

Oh, no!

I haven't been oiling my tires... Will that make them last longer? Shed water? Should I use synthetic tire oil?

(Just to make sure I don't run afoul of Rule #10, I run PR2s.)

Wet-dry or the track, it doesn't matter. The PR2's stick just fine. For the $ it's the best tire out there

Keep an eye on the California section of ride planning in case those Socal posers actually ride their bikes.

This thread needs a poll, just to confirm it's an actual thread.
I can confirm it's an actual thread, but think the poll will need a new thread to validate that it's actually a poll and not ust a thread.

There? Absolutely.

Here? Not so much. The laws of physics and public opinion are completely different in this NEPRT thread. Since the poll is all of 17 minutes old--opinion changes drastically and should be completely ignored.

OK OK. My apologies - guess my search of the topic was less than exhaustive

. Yeah, so what about oil?

(just kidding)

My .02 the PR2 are awesome tires, I didn't think that I was a such a excellent rider that I would be able to tell the subtle differences in tires, however, I noticed a huge step up in handling when I put PR2's on! I haven't tried the PR3's yet, and probably will try the new PR4's this summer when I run my PR2's into the pavement.

And the oil? Use a petroleum product- doesn't rust yer innards like water does....

when i picked up my bike it had the PR2 front and back i was riding back to winslow indiana from shore wood ,IL

when we had the storm that took out the sugerland stage ,and killed those people ,anyway the tires worked Ossom and im on my second set

very good choice for wet roads .

I recently got PR2's and I can't believe the difference in the way the bike handles. The stock tires must have been truck tires.
