Hi

This Subject has been talked about much i think, FJR top speed, Well Mine goes around 250 - 260 Km/h is there any one that past that speed on their FJR's, That was the speed i did get Standard, I added an DND air filter & twin RoadRax Pipes, I feel much improve power? I did not take it on the open road to see if it can go faster than that speed, If there are any FJR's that goes beyond that i like to know, what they have done to it. Personaly i won't touch my Motor to any mods,

Like to know what you say

Regards

I think you are going to find that 250 km/h is about all you can squeeze out of the old FJR with the mods you have done. Some others on the forum can probably comment on what they've done and if it improved performance or not.

IIRC The mags listed the stock FJR top speed at 156 MPH which is just over 250 KPH, One member here has a stock 04' that was clocked at 160 which is about 260 KPH

Strictly by the numbers based on gear ratio and RPM the Gen I should be running 156 mph at red line. The Gen I will definitely pull red line in top gear.

Yes, 100% Agree, But at least i know lol, but it doesn't bother me at all, it is an nice bike to ride, & still very fast enough to ride.

Best of Regards

Once and only once, have I tried a top speed run, one up with full panniers and top box in France, speedo registered 160mph. Recommended Yamaha top speed with top box 80mph!!

My GenI will hit 160 with my sport shield on, and at that speed I noticed the tach is past the redline, although I didn't have enough time to study just exactly what RPM it's at.

With my VStream it really slows down above 150 and I haven't had enough road to see if it'll keep going past 155...with the sport shield it really zips up to 155 and then will crawl up to 160!

Top speed isn't usually good for much (it works as a 'poor man's dyno', kind'a...).

But, once in awhile, it's worth alot: I was invited to a BMW mini-rally not long after I got my FJR (long time ago, now) and showed up a little after most were already there. I parked a little out of the way and, pretty soon, there were a half-dozen guys around me asking about the bike. Then, one asked, "How fast will it go?" Me, "It'll walk right up to 150." Another, "Have you ever done that?" Me, "Yep." Another, "When?" Me, "Just on the way over here."

There was a loud silence as the, mainly, 'slash 6' and 'slash 7' owners tried to mentally configure what that might be like. I'm pretty sure their experience history left them poorly equipped for that reality? At least from the looks on their faces...

Anyway, it was fun -- and I have little doubt it left the impression that the FJR was, for sure, a contender. :)

Most bike speedos are wrong...usually on the high side a handful of mph. Suggest using the GPS max speed field in the GPS trip computer to accurately see how fast you were really going. The speedo is a tease and a liar...plus it puts miles on the odo that you really didn't travel. B)

Aye, dis be true. I posted a gear & rpm speed calculation for top speed, not a speedo reading. While your true speed on a Gen I may be 156 at red line, the speedo could be reading 165-170.

I had a gen1 that I ran OEM tires on and the speedo, according to my GPS, was dead on at all speeds. I haven't checked my gen2 yet (waiting for the snow to abate) but I expect the same accuracy.

Actually, the odo is usually quite accurate (given correct tire size) even when the speedometer is quite optimistic. With electronic devices, they can apply different logic circuits to the pulse counters for each instrument, rather than the older mechanical trips off the spinning cable.

I did it once just to see--my speedo was indicating just under 160--didn't look at the RPM's (barely looked at the speedo). I had the side cases on, put the screen (stock) all the way down and got in a tuck, held it WFO for a couple of miles....

Even though the bike felt rock solid--I'll never do it again. BTDT.....

I do go through a procedure to try to make it safe. There's some seriously deserted roads around here. Once I'm out in a wide expanse, if there's no traffic--and I mean not a single car either way to the horizons, I'll crank up the speed, mark a landmark, ride close to the center line, watch the road really carefully for any debris, potholes, etc., look for critters...

Then after a few miles...Jam on the brakes, flip a U-...

Then go for it after that. Call me paranoid but I don't want any surprises at "excessive" speeds :D

FWIW my '04 reads just about right at 160 @ redline. I should make a video one of these days to study after the fact!!

Have you tried some of this in the gas tank?

The one and only time my FJR saw 160mph on the GPS, the speed-o was reading around 170, and I was WELL past the 9,000 rpm redline. More closer to 10,500. I was not hitting the rev limiter yet however.

Gen I speed-Os tend to be more accurate than Gen IIs. Most Gen Is are usually within 3mph (pretty much always optimistic), until you start getting over the ton and more error creeps in as speed goes up. This is why whenever someone claims an FJR top speed I don't pay much attention to it unless it's a gps reading.

My odometer is consistently 1.8% optimistic. (Logs more miles than actual)

So I guess it all depends on what your definition of accurate is, but I am pretty much happy with how mine is.
