One of the guys I work with has an Ninja zx-9r,it's a pretty quick bike and a lot of fun to ride. He takes the same path toward home as I do,so we some times engage in a little friendly roll-on speed compatition.

He normaly starts to pull away from me in first, but buy time I hit 2nd. I am back on his ass. I can stay with him all the way through 4th. but then he starts to pull a way from me pretty quick. By that time it's time to start shuting it down pretty quick so we can make our turn off onto a nice stretch of state hwy. Then there is about a three mile straight clear nice road before 4 back to back short tight 90's. before he has to turn off and head for home. The big FJR has no problem staying right there with him,it is a very capable bike.

She handles those curves with confidence.

Oh, and for those that did'nt know, The FJR will hold the front wheel in the air 1st. through 2nd.

Not to bad mouth the FJR but this sounds like it is more about personal ability than the bike's ability. The FJR is not a sport bike.

Plenty fast enough for me though. B)

Are you saying you shift in the air? I think the FJR is a very capable ride but I am still getting used to the weight. One day I'll be able to push it a bit more in the turns.

Yep -- that'd be my take, also. That or in twisties -- a difference in which rider is willing to go deeper into the available envelope -- something like the ZX rider keeping it to 7/10ths, while the FJR rider is willing to push it north of 8/10ths.

EDIT -- oops, rereading seems to say most or all of this was on straights? There, I have trouble believing the FJR would keep up with equal riders doing the shifting, except at lower to mid-range rpm same gear roll-ons where the FJR's torque is superior.

No the FJR isnt a sport bike but, it's the closest thing to a sport bike that I own and I am very impressed with how well it can do.

As far as personal ability,,,,,,,,,,,,,Whats your point?

Ok,Ok, I do tend to thrash my bike some times but hey thats what makes it fun for me.

Yes I can shift with the front wheel in the air. When shifting to 2nd. it will come down. But I have pulled it off several times completing the shift while carrying the front wheel. But then again I only weigh 148lb's wet.

:) Nothing against you if that's what you're asking. Just running my mouth (or fingers I guess). On the subject of personal ability, I would say that the FJR has more capability than I can use.

You are probably right about the 7/10 thing, his tires are getting pretty bad.

No I can't keep up after 4th.gear on the fjr. He pulls away pretty quick after that.

Sounds like meosborn is talking about the ZX-9's rider since it is a sport bike, where the FJR is a sport-tour bike. You having a bad day, or are you taking anything as a reason to get defensive?

Chill and know a compliment when you see it.
