The '13 also has a painted fender except it's a darker shade than the rest and a matte finish. In fact, I think it matches the beak nicely and I (probably in the minority) really like the darker fender.
Oh and the fuel tank trim is the same color as the fuel tank (unlike the '14's that have the silver finish) which suits my fancy.

I'm with you. I like the front fender finish and how it matches the fairing's batwings.

I think the '14 has a beautiful shade of red. Better in person that in pics. And even though I like shiny things (had an orange triumph) I prefer my '13 color to the '14. But many feel otherwise. The ONLY reason I want a '14 is for the 100 mph cruise.

PLEASE Yamaha, just admit your mistake and give us poor '13 owners a fix for this!

I believe the absence of that flat in front of the rear wheel was a mistake and not an intentional deletion. Some of the 2013 and 2014A's came thru with the flap.

I tend to agree that it was a mistake, but my '13 came without one and my dealer got and installed it for me at no charge.

For those interested in a 2014A, I saw that Richmond Honda House (https://www.richmondhondahouse.com/ -- they absorbed the Yamaha dealer some few years ago) has one on the floor on Broad Street. Dropped by the other day and sat on it, drooling over it (and wiping up the drool, of course).

I already ordered my ES from D&H, and Richmond Honda's not sure when they'll be getting an ES in. But if you're interested, there's another one for sale.

I suspect that after the first we'll see more on the floors of dealers...but if you just have to have one now....

The flap is part #5JW-21621-10-00 and is used on the 2004-2012 and 2014 models. It was deleted from the 2013 parts list but was added back to the 2014 parts list. I would think that deleting it from the parts list was intentional....and a big PR mistake....that was corrected in the 2014 models.
