FWIW, I just checked my recall notice for 1st gen TPS and there is none on that. But will certainly check before hosting and posting.

Because there was on the altitude issue TBS and we did our best to convert some of the content to "fair use". We really try and avoid to annoy the hand that eventually fixes things.

No, not all of them....some early '09's are on recall as well.

I havent read the tech bulletin, but that is what my dealer told me this AM...same key. Oh, and you forgot the gas cap. :dribble:

Just in f*ckin* time. I just got back from Death Valley, parked the bike, went out to go to the store today, turned the key - nada - nothing. I fiddled with it and got it to come online, but now I have to wait for the dealer to get the parts and pray the bike gets me there without a tow.

If this had happened in the middle of Death Valley, I'd still be walking.

I just finished reading the full tech bulletin.

Your dealership must have done something other than what is described because you came in early and insisted they take acre of this for you. The TB explicitly has them reuse the key cylinder from the old switch. In fact the new parts do not even include a new cylinder or keys. So you got hosed. Or hosed yourself...

They just called me back and apologized. Thy told me to bring it back and they will fix it and give it back to me in the morning. They said they see the mistake they made and would like to fix it. I am feeling better now....

Just dropped the bike off this afternoon for some unrelated issues and found out the parts for my ignition work will be in tomorrow. Glad to hear I'll have EVERYTHING done in one trip. :clapping:

I spoke with Yamaha (Corporate) Canada this morning regarding the switch recall in the U.S. I gave my VIN to the customer relations girl and she confirmed that there was a "main switch" recall on my 2006 FJR. She said it had just been issued and to contact my dealer. She said a recall letter should have been sent to me.

My bike is in km/h and was purchased in Canada by the previous owner. It is equipped with the immobilizer system as all Canadian FJR's are.

So, maybe you Aussies might be getting some new switches as well. Then again, we are the favoured sons of the Commonwealth.

I got the call Tuesday from the local service department and made an appointment in two weeks. I would rather replace the switch myself but appear to have no choice in the matter. I would feel better if the new switch is a truly new design, not just another peace of shit. Anyone actually have one in his or her hand?

[/rhetoric] The way that I connect the dots on this is that there's a problem on 2006 - 2009 bikes including one's with the immobilizer or the Canadian bikes wouldn't be getting recalled. I don't see where the fact that Aussie bikes have had the immobilizer longer means that they're not at risk. :dntknw:

Yammie replaced the ignition switch back in Oct when it failed to start the bike. They did the right thing and had a locksmith key the switch to the original key. Now I have to call them and ask if the newer unit is subject to recall.

Our ignition switches are different to yours.

Do the US models have immobilisers fitted?

If not then that may explain why the Aussie & Canadian are different, they do.
