Outta curiosity, what would a 'typical' answer for this question be for an IBR participant crossing into Canada?
I always said "vacation" or "pleasure" heading into Canada. Short and honest responses. Only one time did I get a quizzical look when they had asked how long I'd be in Canada. I said "about a day" and they did the math with my destination of "Hudson's Hope".

"You can't make that in 24 hours!", they said.

I quickly replied, "I might spend an extra night in Prince George if that's OK?" and they went off alert. I figured telling them I was getting there by way of Banff and still 24 hours would probably make things worse.

Border crossing experiences are varied by riders. Everybody has at least one story, but I think most find Canada crossing to be usually easy and convivial northbound and sometimes like dealing with rogue mall cops coming back.
In 2011 I was back at the US Border after a quick trip to Hyder. I guess my answer wasn't good enough and got directed to secondary inspection. The "I NEED to get to Buffalo" thought bubble may have clouded my expression!

Peek! I miss you man! I was just thinking about the fog of 2007 and that giant mountain we kept riding down in Kansas on night 11.

And I've also been scoping out Bavaria Center Cabins....I'm 6 months away from pulling a 1/2 Peek and wandering the marinas and harbors of the world. ;)

Keep the port side port!

Matt

The hills in Kansas are steep!

Your neck of the woods is a sweet place to get the flame fanned!

4,500 on the last three days?! I couldn't do it, and wouldn't have put myself in a position where I had to, but I bet there are a couple dozen in this rally that could.

It also sounds like there were riders in AK that were not on the public spot page, so this might not even be the person furthest out. Will be a nail biter for sure.

I can think of a couple people that may have taken the Alaska route. I dont know if I am right as to who it is though. Hope they all make it back in time. Nothing like the anxiety of watching the clock tick down and the spots move slowly closer to the finish. Kind of glad I dont have to go through that this year with Erik 😂

And I second the sentiments of others. Go Wendy Go!

That data is about 9 hours old. The math continues to worsen to where it's conspicuously more than a triple BBG rate now. No way I could and I DID do a triple BBG in a three day rally in 2011! I just don't see it happening with the roads, tires, last 3 days, etc. Sorry.

However, I'd personally start watching those two dots in Michigan. Interesting stuff there. What happens after Detroit will be telling. Or the other outliers from the flock of sheep down south. They all may be orange, but they look like wolves to me.

Back atcha!

Two people are on Belle Isle in Detroit. Coincidentally, that's where they have

...the same circuit as my home town that riders were at Thursday and Sunday. I remember going there in 2013 to snap a picture....and then I hotfooted it to Canada through Windsor. I'm gonna bet they are too.
They're luck though they didn't have to stop at the Henry Ford Museum. I also did this one in 2013 and it included snapping pictures of like 21 cars, buses, tractors, and other machinery for about 90 minutes.

Excellent wordsmithing, Iggy.

As hard as it is to put into words (much less read/comprehend poetry within this mostly-left-brain of mine) your crafting of the emotions and the perfect choice of video to go with it was great. In fact, reading your description then seeing the video surprised me with the visceral reaction I had to it.

I can relate to everyone how such events usually start with a "What th'?", reaction from me followed by the hair on the back of my neck standing up as I try to process what it is I'm seeing though my re-programmed brain.

I'm glad I was able to dust off those old memories. Those were "old-school" IBRs. ;)

I was out in Jackson today and not close enough to the house / bike to venture out in an attempt to cheer on the folks passing through Detroit.

Belle Isle and "road less traveled" - could be that the bonus was related to the Indy car track that is being dissassembled - the Detroit Gran Prix was just a couple weeks ago.

Looks like there was a bonus tied to the Keewenaw Rocket Range site up by Copper Harbor - 2 riders there now.

I miss ALL of you Nut Jobs!!

Rider in south Chicago just went “dark mode” , he was stationary for about 20 minutes ( quite a number of refreshes still in same place )then disappeared from the screen ? The other riders close to him/her are still there ?

As far as I can tell, the math for the Alaska foursome is looking quite different.

The last spot who left Homer this morning still seems to be 3,800 miles from home with only 59 hours left before starting to lose points - they'd have to average over 64mph from here with ZERO sleep to make it.

The leader of the 4 is approaching Edmonton and is about 1,300 miles ahead of tail end charlie. With 2,500 miles to go and the same 59 hours remaining, they could sleep/stop for 18 hours and still make it home on time by averaging 60mph while moving. I'd guess that the three between Edmonton and St. John have reasonable odds of bringing it home, but the trailer is probably out of luck. It's too bad after some huge miles in Alaska and Canada, but I suppose that's part of the risk in going for the home run route. In either case, cudos to those that swung for the fences!

HOMER is near Burwash Landing, 3745 miles out. That translates to an avg. mph of approx. 65 mph to make it home.....not looking too hopeful to me.

GO, HOMER, GO!

Ride safely.

I computed it earlier today and was 65.7 where now seems to be closer 64.9. That's a slight improvement, but also an indicator they've not given up. Regardless, they are SO on the edge.

The Homer ride does not seem humanly possible. I am certain these folks are not human.

I am rooting for him or her!
