I was watching BBC news this morning and they showed French President Hollande's motorcade accompanied by at least a dozen cops all on FJR1300s. That's the most I've ever seen at one time. I tried to find a good image but there doesn't seem to be any.

Did they look like these?

I find myself watching the Tour de France (NO, not so I can see skinny guys in bicycle shorts!) so I can watch all the motorcycles that accompany the bicycles. The FJR must be the official police motorcycle and they have some really neat little blue lights next to the mirrors. Also of interest are the camera bikes, usually older BMWs. Those guys can really ride, they are just inches from disaster while the cameraman is doing all sorts of goofy things on the back that would probably cause me to fall. Unfortunately the official Tour De France motorcycle for the last few years has been the Kawasaki Concours, but they get some interesting paint jobs.

How can you get one of those cool genII trunks without joining the euro policia? I can only bet they're hundreds less than the Corbin Smuggler including shipping. Lol.

Those must be the infamous French tuned FJRs. Can't even outrun guys on horses.

by the way, what's with the little ball sack seat 'napkins' on some of the bikes shown in Scotty's photo?

Gads, I would never ever ever ever be a motorcycle guy for the Tour De France. I volunteered as a motorcycle escort for the Hotter Than Hell 100 bicycle race last year and won't do it again. There's no experience quite like putting along at 20mph in the Texas heat following a bunch of guys in spandex. Oh, and those guys consume more water than they sweat...and it's gotta go somewhere. I'm not sure I was prepared to see the first bike pull back hike his spandex and release his bladder on the side of the road while riding. I certainly wasn't prepared to see this constantly throughout the race. I did learn some technique though that may help during an IBA run though. :D

Anyway, I can't imagine following those guys around at their speeds through such fine riding country on a motorcycle like the FJR. No thanks no how no way!

Saw this on the NBC nightly news-had to rewind it to be sure. They had both frontal and rear views

I think the "little ball sack napkins" on their seats are actually fold up tank protectors. If you notice in the background of the pic, the leather strips appear wider. Cops wearing the metal buckles and all. Not a bad idea IMO. PM.
