Was Putt'in down the freeway bout 90, bike felt weird all of a sudden? start to slow down, sure enough damn back tire flatter then a pancake! It's over 100 degrees out, Thank God I'm only about 2 miles from my Yama Dealer, He came to my rescue. :fans:

Bummer is, He said it's not good to patch a high speed tire like that I should buy a new one!

Looked like a nail hole dead center, but looked BIG. (talking to the Tech not the sales guy)

He plugged it for me. And I went on my ride to King City and back with no problems :drinks:

(bout 300 miles) (my detector saved my butt to, on 198 half way between Colinga and the 101. :diablo:

I bought one of those CO2 patch kits just in case.

Anyone else have good luck with a patch holding on a high speed tire, The back tire takes allot of abuse, fast take offs etc.

I think you loose the speed rating with a puncture. Probably should keep it below 90 and keep the abuse to a minimum. I rode for about 4 months with a plugged (rubber worms, not patched) back tire before it suddenly decided it wouldn't hold pressure overnight no matter what.

After having a LOW tire and riding slowly on it to get air and feeling how hot, I mean really HOT it was when I stopped for air, I had no problem with the tech telling me "We don't repair motorcycle tires". It was a great tire but no telling the damage done by the heat. Just my opinion.

My Pappy always told me that those tires were the ONLY thing between the asphalt and my hide - and he was always right.

IMHO - a patch or plug should be a temporary measure to get you to a place where you can replace the skin. Word.

Ordered new tire, pick it up tomorrow! I wish i could buy Road Hazard like you can on Car tires :(

Thanks for your help

Good choice, neighbor..

My Z6 rear went soft *at the house*, aired it back up, stayed inflated overnight, rode it 100+ miles to work and back, 2 hours later it was flat again. At least my FJR has the decency to go flat *at the house* :) .

For an experiment, I plugged it, rode it to work again today..

but NO FREAKIN way would I ride a plugged tire more than needed... the whole time today I was thinking how is the tire doing? Feel any weird feedback? Kinda ruined the ride.

New skins Monday no ride Sat/Sunday for this kid..

Same thing at 70 mph.... nail dead center. I plugged it on the side of the road & pumped it up. The next day ordered a new tire. The temperature of the tire upon stopping was much hotter than I expected. Agree with the others. On a bike the tires are too important to shortchange. The cost of a tire is cheap compared to what could happen.

It always safer to replace the tire if the plug is large but after saying that I have plugged two FJR tires and ran them to the end of the tread life without incident. The plugs were for small nail holes. I kept watch and never lost air. This info has been discussed alot in the past and you will get a split decision about running a plug or not.
