I know I missed Friday by a couple days, but here goes.

I've been riding for 15 years and have only had one flat tire up until this summer. I switched to PR3s last year and got three flats in a row my rear tire, not all together. I patched the first two and changed the tire after the third. The new tire I put on just went flat on the way home from the gas station last week, less than a mile from home. It had a large cut in the center and I found no foreign object in the tire when I pulled it off. The nature of the damage led me to replace, instead of repair, the tire with only about 1k miles on it. That's four flat tires this summer.

I know it sounds strange/stupid, but are PR3s more prone to picking up nails and such than other tires?

The first nail I picked up this summer was either in Caldwell or on the way home from the Ramble. The second and third were somewhere between my work and home. The fourth, as I said above, was less than a mile from home. I see no real pattern as the gas station isn't along my "normal" route home. The second and third nail happened during commuting, but really can't narrow down where I picked them up.

Any thoughts? We can pretend it's Friday and you guys can have fun with this, but it seems a little more than just bad luck.

I've put about 23,000 miles on many sets of Dunlop Roadsmarts with only one flat; from a 4" framing nail. I thought I had flat after crossing the Beartooth pass; but that turned out to be a stone that didn't make it past the steal belts. The nail I think I picked up near home. It drove in to the base; and wen I pulled it out it was "C" shaped. I had that tire patch from the inside.

PhilJet, 15 years is 5,475 days. 4 Flats in 15 years is 1 Flat in 1,368.75 days or 3.75 Years. I'd say your Batting Average is just fine. Just bad luck that the were all Damn near back to back. :)

If you have 4 more next month, then we're talking Spooky. But, make sure you post that one on a Friday!

No PR3s are no more prone to flats than any any other tire. Luck of the draw. If you don't have tire pump and plug kit I get you are looking!

I think you're right...just trying to convince myself completely.

If I get four more, I'll post it on a Friday the 13th.

The "Nondescript FJR Hierarchy" was because I complained a long time ago about being called a "Training Pilot". I kinda like it.

After the second nail, I told myself "luck of the draw", oh well. After the third I thought it was weird, but sh*t happens. Four in a row just sucks. I'm sure I'm making too much of this, but thought I'd ask anyway. You guys could use the entertainment on my behalf.

Ever wonder why the vast majority of tire punctures happen to the back tire; well, what I've heard (as theory) is that you run over the object with the front tire, it gets kicked up (and tumbling), and here then comes your back tire (and luck of the spinning object) either deflects away or 'pow', picks up the puncture. In your case it could be that somewhere along your route there has been recent construction or a contractor spill of nails (objects) that until exhausted has caused increased punctures in that area (cars included).

Put on a set of Bt023s and 36 miles later I took a gash in the rear that ruined the tire. Put another on and 2800 mi. later I took a gash in it. This gash **** was a first for me. Had me thinking maybe it was the tire, but it is not. Gone on to get good mileage out of the 23s.

I think the clear solution is you have to move.

I think we have a winner! It has to be the flat, straight, boring roads doing it.

"Honey, we have to move. The roads around here are bad for my tires."

Actually the wife and I have wanted to leave NW Ohio for a while now, but it's a bad time for finding good jobs in my field.

The ones with nails and screws in them are much more prone to getting flats.
No ****?You mean something like this?
