There are some pretty amazing pictures and video on our local TV station websites:

Our paper today reported that since I-5 is closed around mile marker 68 and traffic has to take the LONG way around east of the Cascade mountains that the local truck weigh-station/entry point is like a morgue. Some parts of I-5 are under 10' of water. They're hoping it improves by tomorrow, but they'll have to check the structure of the roadbed out. Amtrak is hoping to resume service later tonight.

Those of us on the eastside of the Cascades have gotten off pretty easy. Those guys over in the wetlands are up a Creek. (or down it). There were pictures on Seattle news last nite that were pretty amazing. Whole cities cut off from the outside, one neighborhood of 2 hundred families and the road is gone.

But there are many other places in our country that have had things like this happen and have overcome, so will the Northwest.

The good thing is we voted in a 5 cent per gallon gas tax for highways. One major project was to be controlling the Chehalis river. Oops, too late.

Things are drying up here in Woodinville but on the day of the storm, of the 6 freeway exits into Woodinville, only one was open and once you got off the freeway, most of the side streets were closed.

Yeah, a common misconception is that the state is all moss-encrusted and we all rust. A lot of the areas being flooded average 40+ inches of rain a year already while lands where Warchild points the Busa tend to get 6 to 8 inches. About a third of the state is sagebrush...the part that's in a giant rainshadow. ;)

Those folks in Chehalis especially...and folks wanting to ride this obscure road called "I-5" are having a rough time of it this week. Actually, Slapnpop is probably getting drenched too!

All ground transportation from Portland to Seattle has been affected. To get to Seattle, drivers have to take a 7 hour detour. Train service is down too. Airfare prices, which were typically $39-$79 each way have doubled, and in some cases, tripled.

A town just outside Portland, Vernonia, was completely cut off. All roads going into and out of town were either flooded or blocked by mud slides.

A couple flooded areas in and around Portland, but nothing like the coastal range of Oregon, or in Chehalis area of Washington.

I sure don't miss that weather. Here on the dry side of the mountains there is enough rain to keep it green but not enough to flood. :)

I live up nort of Everett and it has not affected us where I live. I did drive down to the Internation Motorcycle show on Sunday and the drive down was nasty, glad I was smart enough to take the cage! Lived here all my life and still can't figure why people move into the flood plains. I understand the farmer but the us rest of should be smarter. This time of year is tough to get a lot of good riding in but we still get our days the week before I went out on Sunday afternoon had a nice ride had to watch for the ice patchs.

Getting home Monday nite was *interesting* to say the least. I work in Woodinville and as Niehart pointed out, the place was shut down with all the flooding. Several folks who attempted to leave early ended up sitting in traffic for hours just to make it 4 - 5 miles. This rain was on top of approximately 4" of snow at the house Sunday morning... :angry2: No bike show for me.

After watching the traffic (not) moving, I stayed at work to make sure the facility was secure and then had a leisurely drive home at about 9:00 PM. OTOH, today was a beautiful clear (and sunny) NW day.
