This is COMPLETELY off topic :)

What I’m looking for is a cost-effective solution for a charity organization. We need a new floor. We currently have industrial carpet over a plywood subfloor. The problem is, it always looks like crap because of traffic and spills. We end up having it cleaned several times and then replacing it. Personally I have no problem with just plain plywood. But it’s not a committee of one. We’re looking for something that will stand up to the equivalent of light industrial.

We have looked at:

• Linoleum or wood flooring but the chairs are metal and will gouge the floor eventually. Picture those metal edges when the end caps fall off.

• Tile flooring is very expensive and will most likely crack and scratch.

• Rubber floors are super expensive and will gouge also.

• Industrial tile (like in schools) is cost prohibitive $20+ per Sq.

I was thinking of some kind of epoxy coating but they seem to be only for concrete sub floors. I’ve been looking for something like an epoxy coating that will flex at the plywood seams but remain durable enough to stand up. I was also wondering if there is something that can be sprayed on like when they spray concrete for a pool. But since the location is on the second floor there will some flex in the floor and there is the weight consideration.

It's about 1500 square feet.

Any ideas?

Have you looked at this? Clicky

Not dirt cheap but you install yourself. Looks like it would hold up well and you can replace sections that get damaged rather than refinishing or redoing the entire room.

They're in Va. so shipping costs should be reasonable.

Good luck.

You might want to repair those chair leg ends as well. Maybe glue some rubber caps or something on them.

What about something like Rhino liner or whatever it's called? You know - the truck bed liner stuff.

Composite vinyl tile, what I think you are calling industrial tile, is certainly a do it yourself project. It can be had fairly cheap. My church asked a flooring supplier and had it sold to us at cost and six other guys and I installed 800 ft2 on a Saturday, including stapling down 1/4 underlayment. You may not need to do this based on the condition of your subfloor. I think we ended up doing th whole job for $5-$6 a square foot including food for the crew.

Don't rule out wood like laminates. We have armstrong interlocking laminate down and is really durable. If you shop around similar products can be had for less than $2.00 sq ft. Easy install, something that can be a project.

Oh, and I forgot. If a peice gets damaged, can be replaced individually.

sheetmetal?... any reason you can't tinsnip some forms around the pipes and framing? It's cheap, comes in large sizes (less work), durable, cleans easy, looks industrial from day-one, chairs will slide easily (especially without the rubber feet!) and it'll be cool to slide around in your socks!

...you're welcome...
