Your first post in this thread kept running through my mind last weekend while running to MN and back. This was my first ride of any distance this season, and it was good to know I wasn't the only one who was not yet in good LD form. Just stay on it, manage the physical part, keep the attitudes in check, etc...

Did the Curt Gran SS1K for Moonshine again this year, and except for a couple of short shake down rides that was the first ride of the year for me.

Yeah, that hurt.

I arrived back early (2 am) this morning. I am at work now and accessing the weekend rides and activities.

Funny thing on the return ride; I had planned on scattering 3 or so rests during the ride and do a Bun Burner (36 hours) It started really rough. The start receipt, the weather... Plus I left out after a full day of activities. My plan was to ride to MY rest stop on I-57s and sleep for awhile then pick away at the ride. I battled my way through intermittent rain and COLD windy conditions. By the time I got to my rest stop, I was pretty trashed. A BEE infestation at MY rest stop found me resting on the ground in the parking lot next to my bike. About an hour and a half of rest and I was on my way again. ETA was 26 minutes past a BBG arrival with no stops... No problem, I wasn't riding a BBG. With the need to keep the bike running, the fuel stops were a quick gas'n go.

The ride went ok until I hit Atlanta at rush hour in a down pour.

Next thing I knew- I was in Jacksonville with 4 hours left and my arrival time at 2 minutes past BBG. To make a long story short, I finished 16 minutes early and got a second BBG for the weekend.

Tony, you make it sound so easy. And please don't let anyone discourage you from posting your adventures here. Most people don't understand endurance challenges. Some people run marathons for fun, while others sit on a couch and watch Wheel of Fortune for fun. Different strokes....

I was out putting around picking off a few Tour of Honor sites in IN while you were battling the cold and winds through MO/IL, I'm thinking you were leaned over pretty good going south. The wind was straight out of the east, had to be 20 - 30 mph with gusts in excess. Temps were low to mid 40s. Miserable indeed.

Normally I would let a statement like this slide by without a reply, but not this time.

You stated "To each his own" then everything that followed that phrase violated its very meaning.

There are riders on this forum who can ride twisties like there was no tomorrow. I do not criticize them for their ability to do

something better than I… I admire their ability.

There are riders on this forum that can perform maintenance at any level they desire. I do not criticize them for their ability

to do something effortlessly that I labor endlessly to do… I admire their ability.

Then there are riders who can ride great distances in seemingly short times. The section that you have posted your comments

is in their sandbox. "Long Distance/Iron Butt"

If you went into a bar and addressed the drunks who were getting ready to hit the road - I would understand.

If you pulled over a driver who was texting and addressed them- I would understand.

I do not know you, but your posting seems to suggest that you are quite ignorant of long distance riding. You try to make a dignified

attempt to be the "Protector" of the ones you "Know or love". LD riders are perhaps a threat to themselves, but others need not live in fear.

We call each other "Sick" or other like words, but these are not welcomed coming from others outside our "Family"

The ride that was done this weekend I have driven/ridden over 100 times (Not an exaggeration) I have done it for a number of various reasons.

This past weekend was to attend my sister's college graduation. She was selected to speak (In front of 3,500?) because of her inspirational story.

I will share a little of it…

Her Honda Civic was rear ended by a tractor/trailer a few years back. The result, besides the physical pain and rehabilitation, has been a

condition in which an event can happen to her today and she could wake up tomorrow and IF she remembers it, she might not be able to

have the ability to place the event in a time frame. If it happened a day ago or a month ago is difficult for her to decipher. I could go on …

SO- The "Notoriety" I was seeking- I received from HER for being able to attend and share this moment with her and the rest of my family.

I love when others share their rides for me to follow. The choice is mine to follow or not, just as this posting gave you the choice to read or not/

to comment or not.

I do not know what type of rider you are, however you did mention sitting on a motorcycle while it isn't moving…. TO EACH HIS OWN !!!

I did not leave the bike, I rode a "Gas & Go" until I reached I-80 in Iowa. That was my first shut down, gotta go, have a drink stop.

I'll bet there wasn't a dry eye in the house, specially yours. Has she decided what she's going to do with her life in the future? With a heart like hers, I hope somebody out there will hire her and give her the shot she deserves. Is there a "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey used to say?

Backfired on me… She took the day off and I felt the courthouse employees had no sense of humor for my fun.

Great idea. That would have been a hoot. Guess the courthouse folks are too steeped in their rules and regulations. Let me guess: legal liability... somebody could get hurt/sued. Insurance company wouldn't like it... I can just hear it now. But anyway, she just received a degree, and I'm assuming that has something to do with her current job? Does this mean new opportunities for her?

Also, isn't it amazing how many miles these FJRs can run? And what's really funny is that once they reach 50k, many potential buyers shy away from them because they have "high mileage."
