Why is it that anytime my wife gets a cop behind her early in the morning, they insist on tailgating? She typically leaves for work early (like 4-5am), so is usually one of the only vehicles on the road. Being a woman driving solo at that time of the day, having a tailgater isn't the most pleasant thing to be happening...I didn't think license plates were that hard to read from a distance!

I asked my (Police Chief) buddy the same thing. He says that many officers could benefit from prescription eyeglasses - that they simply cannot read a license plate at any distance.

He also acknowledges that there are some that simply cannot drive.

If this is a regular occurrence, I think a call or visit to the watch commander or supervisor may be in order. Meanwhile, maybe install a rear-facing dash cam.

And why is this in the jokes and fun stuff forum?

Check your license plate light and your registration tabs. If either one is hard to see that may explain the gap. Maybe its just a dork on third shift who thinks she's purty. If it continues to creep her out see if she can get a car number or plate number. That way you could call and ask to speak to the squad sergeant.

Does she drive a Prius?
LOL... The Prius' crowd does tend to drive a bit slower, backing up traffic.

Is it the same cop? Is it on a road where normally one goes 10-15 over? How often has this occurred? Is the station down the road, and the usual place for calls to happen is up the road? (Sometimes a call requires a hustle to get to, but not quite enough to 'light it up' with the overheads and run code.) What type of car is she driving, a small car, a truck? There could be a perfectly normal answer to the question, but a lot of the times we like to think up far more nefarious activities are afoot.

Is she driving around topless again?

I don't recall you two saying you've been riding around Phoenix!

No idea, she just told me about it happening a couple of times, but not if it was the same place or about the same time...

Only problem here is that if they are tailgating - that is illegal - and police should not be above the law on this....

Following too close law.....

I would make the call and complain if it continues.....

Officers Eye Problems is NO EXCUSE
