Turns out he was selling decals with Ford and Ranger logos on them to help pay the site's bills, and that's what Ford was really after. He was selling their trademarks.

He has agreed to stop, and he further agreed not to allow ads for competing motor companies, some other conditions, and Ford has agreed to allow the site to continue operation.

He also asked that threads about the situation be locked to stop the flow of ire to Ford.

That makes perfect sense, then...

So...Kind of the same reason we don't trade the Yamaha service manual on-line right...If that was the root issue, I can see where they were coming from.

Well, shoot....sorry folks....

In my defense, that's not how his original email put it.

"Today, (December 9, 2008) I received a letter from the law offices of Howard, Phillips & Andersen that represent the Ford Motor Company. Ford is forcing us to surrender the name 'therangerstation.com' to them and stop using it. Ford states that using the name 'Ranger' when used in reference to the Ford Ranger is a trademark violation. In addition they are wanting me to pay them $5,000."

Dang...and I was all set to give Ford a piece of my mind. Oh well...didn't have much to spare anyway. :dribble:

...at least it's not Friday yet....

To quote an old Saturday Night Live bit.....

"Never mind."

Cool. I wonder if the ire flow helped. :p
Another lowly Ranger owner

A friend sent me a link to a blog about this. It seems Ford had a couple reps doing rumor and damage control all over the web. Actually did a pretty good job. From what I saw folks calmed down real quick when they got the details of what The Ranger Station was really being contacted about.

As for your Ranger.....I hope you never have clutch problems. I helped a friend with his Ranger and vowed never again. What a weird system! A slave cylinder that you have to drop the trans to get to, and a master cylinder that is mounted in such a way to make it impossible to bleed air out of it.
