Hi everyone *** last fall my 2004 fjr started making a squeak noise

from the frt fork area at low speed bumps.I have just finished removing

the front forks/installed new lower bushings/changing the fork oil & install new

top oil seals. The first 500 kms the noise was gone. Now at 700 kms the squeak

has returned.Does anyone have any info that could help. Also the top bushings

below the seals were not changed because they were back ordered from Yamaha.

Thanks ****Joe

Bike ever been down? Something bent, or out of place? Does the squeak seem to be coming from the same place as it was before your repair?

If the bike is sitting still, and you push on the handlebars to compress/extend the forks, is the squeak present? Or not?

Checked the front wheel bearings?

The bike has never been down.Pushing on the forks with the bike on

the centre stand it will not make the same noise. The frt wheel bearings have

been checked. The noise also gets worse as the weather gets warmer.May be

its a squeak fom the fairing ???? Only makes noise on sharp bumps/pot holes/train tracks. Still looking for noise. Thanks for input.

I had the same problem. It turns out the steering head nut was loose. The upper ring nut needs to be checked also. If I recall right this was a fairly common problem. It's easy to check for if it's real loose. Put it on the centerstand and have someone lean on the rear so the front end comes up. Then check for play in the front end. Don't just try to move the handlebars. Feel for play by moving the bottom of the forks.
