Giving Hula Girl a new rubber shifty thingy today and noticed this:

Ain't never seen fork oil leak from the top of the forks before. Looks like it is leaking where the preload adjuster screws in.

Anybody got any ideas?

You need to order a 2013..... :p

There's an o-ring up there on the upper cap, wonder if it got chewed up last time the cap was reinstalled....

Yeah, but if it was the cap and o-ring of which you speak then it would be leaking at the cap, not the preload adjuster, right?

I'm embarrassed to say these forks are WAY overdue for service. 82,000 miles since the last service. Have been meaning to get to it for a couple months now.......

Well, the back side of that cap looks kinda grungy. Once oil is out there it can blow around a bit.

I'm not sure it can leak from that preload adjuster. There ought to be too much solid stuff between there and where the oil is.....

I get what you are saying. That was my first hunch too. But after closer inspection it really looks to me like it is leaking from the preload adjuster and flowing down. I cleaned it up and will monitor to make sure.

82K?! Yikes! I'm getting my Forks redone to go with the new shock. I have 57K on them since new and my right one is corroded shut! To add insult to injury, it's on back order!! And Holy Crap is that thing expensive. the only thing that's keeping me from being totally Pissed off is that, I haven't spent $1 on anything broken on the bike since new. :clapping:

Ohlins & Cogent Dynamics are developing a new 20mm cartridge for the FJR. It should be available in a couple of months and it will be way, way less expensive. I'm waiting for that :)

Keep us posted on that ice, sounds like something I'd be interested in. I'm planning on keeping my bike for a while longer. :)

Thanks for this post. I'm planning on doing mine this winter, so I'll wait until these come out.

Why something new? Two years ago their 25mm cartridge was supposed to be the Dog's Danglies: Clicky.

I had some oil leaking from the rebound adjuster on one fork. I sprayed some WD -40 on the rebound adjuster shaft while turning the rebound adjuster and the leaking stopped.
