Can someone tell me the stock distance that the forks protrude out of the upper clamp? Mine were set at 12mm (which I've read is the maximum amount you're supposed to use in order to lower the front end).

I want to set the bike back up to nominal so that I have a baseline for changes.

Thanks,

Mark

From what I see they should be flush. Or 0.5 mm.

Why would you lower the front forks unless you also lowered the rear somehow?

PO lowered the rear nearly 2". I'm trying to get it set back up to stock.

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have mentioned that I measured from the top of the fork cap - is that your point of reference also?

I set them up so the cap/tube intersect line is flush with the tree, ie: the cap sticks just above the tree.

Thanks for the info. That's how I set them up. It was late last night when I got finished, so I didn't get a chance to ride it and tinker with the suspension settings.

It's done to try changing the effective trail in the hopes of making the steering a bit faster. The effectiveness of this is highly subjective to the model of bike and individual rider. It worked for me in motocross on tight tracks with their long forks, but seldom seemed worth it on street bikes.
