Thank you both, Radman and Jestal. I found the other thread where this has been discussed also. Actually, I had posted there but hadn't read it after that point. Not sure how I'll deal with the oil change next year but at least I know there are some options. It will probably depend on how much time I have when it needs changing.

A few days ago I started a thread questioning the required 8K mile interval spark plug change. It seems to lean toward being a way to keep Yamaha dealership service bays packed with fresh souls, IMO. Some agreed, some didn't.

So checking the book on the service interval for fork oil change, and there is no interval. Interesting.

I guess Yamaha has a great deal of confidence in their forks. But I side with the change it regularly crowd on this one. It's inexpensive and easy, albeit messy, but if it will extend fork seal life I'm all for it. Changing those is a pain.

As for brake fluid, again, no interval for fluid change, all by itself. But the book says to overhaul the master cylinders every 2 years and makes a point of saying to change the fluid at this time [ :lol: ] though we probably coulda figured that one.

And maybe if we put fresh brake fluid in more often we won't need to rebuild the cylinders every two years... I have never rebuilt or replaced a master cylinder on a bike.

I was surprised at how dirty the fork oil was after less than 10k miles. The tubes were shiny and always kept clean so I suspect the spooge was mostly from inside the fork tubes. Maybe it will be cleaner now that the parts have all broken in and learned to play well together.

No, it won't be. Despite our best efforts, outside crud finds it's way in. The seals are not perfect, they constantly wipe the tubes and introduce the scrapings to the tube interior. It's totally a miles ridden phenomena.

Gentlemen;

Can the top fork adjuster be removed from the fork cap so the fork oil can be replaced or adjusted without removing the fork cap? I'm sure a small tube & syringe would be in order but it sure would be nice to adjust the fork oil level, too.
