wow.

Although the shop feels like they fixed it, it doesn't sound like they said...oops we forgot to install this washer, etc. The words stated was that they said that "it worked it's way over..." No admission of responsibility.

Even if they owned up to the entire deal, I would feel queasy going into a hard lean at speed knowing that they "may have done it right this time". Everything might be perfect now, but MY confidence in those forks would be shot.

I sincerely hope everything is all right now...would they pay to have a second set of eyes check their work, given what happened the first time?

Dang Wheatie !!! I see them as being stand up guys and fixing their mistake. You would be apalled at the number of motorcycles assembled by neomaxizoomed dweebies whilst texting their PO's and lining up another score..oh yeah..and slap another tire on that ol' 'busa over there....Even new cars need checking over...Phadreus would be having some serious issues with the MetaPhysics of Quality on this one for sure....Glad you are well and the Feejer will be up and runnin' soon.

Blessed,

Bobby

Glad they fixed it. Not sure anything more than they did in fixing it and covering your costs is required.

My usual default is that everyone screws up and that he who will step up to the plate and make it right is the merchant I'll choose over others.

Still, for THIS kind of error*, there might not be anything that they could have done to make ME feel confident in their work in the future. You just gotta go by the vibes you got in the whole of the transactions, I guess, and you're the best one to judge from that perspective.

* Where they should have KNOWN there was a problem upon a careful inspection of how the parts went together, and where the predictable consequences of a failure could be fatal.

Just to toss my worthless 2¢ in here, I've never met Dan Kyle, never had any work done at his shop, and wouldn't know who he was if he parachuted into my living room this minute. But I think he's a stand up guy and can be trusted. Why? Let me tell you a quick story...

Back in '02, I was between spouses. That's before MissusHowie and I resumed our "relationship" after being "on break" for 20 years. :)

Anyway, for about 2 years, I was footloose and fancy free, had just received a major promotion and commensurate salary increase. That's when I bought my ZRX. At that time, I was as active a member on the zrxoa.org forum as I am here now. Spending all that time on the forum, I became seriously hooked on modding my ZRX. One of the BIG DEAL - MUST HAVE items was Ohlins shocks for the ZRex, as the stockers are/were MUCH worse than a similar comparison that could be made between the FJR's stock shock and an aftermarket unit.

Anyway, I had lots of "fun" money to spend on myself and decided I'd become one of the few to put Ohlins on the Rex. So I set aside $1000 of my discretionary fund and started doing some internet shopping.

My endless hours of Googling finally led me to Kyle Racing where I found the exact model Ohlins shocks for the ZRX, but at an unbelievably low price....$500 LESS than the prices I had found at any other site, and $500 less than prices quoted on the ZRX forum.

Needless to say, not only was I shocked, but skeptical as well. I thought, "in for a penny, in for a pound" so with debit card in hand, I gave Dan Kyle a call.

The conversation went something like this:

Dan: "Kyle Racing, what can I do for you?"

Me: "I'd like to buy a set of Ohlins shocks for my '02 ZRX and you came highly recommended by the ZRX Owner's Association Forum."

Dan: "Yep, sold a few to those guys. A great bunch."

Me: "I've got one question, though....I thought the shocks for the ZRX were about $1100? But the price on your website is $599."

Dan: "WHAT!!! Let me check....."

Me: (oh ****, here comes the backpedal)

Dan: Christ, that's a typo. The price IS $1099 with free shipping. But ****, I'm a guy who stands behind what he says. You want a set at that price, I'll sell 'em to ya, but

don't be going back to your forum bragging on how you bent me over, okay?"

Me: (thinking "$500 to spend on other ****") "Hell yes I'm ready to buy, and hell no I won't tell anyone." Gave him my card info and 4 or 5 days later, got a brand new set

of Ohlins for my ZRX AND $500 left for other stuff.

That was 7 years ago and this is the first time I've told the story to anyone. Statute of limitations, y'know?

Anyway, although I never bought anything else from Dan, that one instance of him standing behind HIS mistake made a great impression on me. Him standing behind this fork rebuild boo-boo is just another reason why I wouldn't hesitate to buy something from Dan Kyle and Kyle Racing if the opportunity or need ever came up.

And no......my real name ain't Dan Kyle and this story isn't made up. :****:

BTW, I spent the other $500 on a Traxxion fork rebuild, jet kit and pod setup and full Muzzy exhaust for Rex (had to throw in a couple hundred more). Win-Win

Al ol' buddy I'm glad it's all come out good in the end. Ride on.

Howie, that is a fantastic story. What are odds that you'd find a chance to tell it in relation to FJRs so many years later? Good one.
Funny thing about it, as I was reading along with the thread I was thinking "Jeez, what ******* company fubar'd this install" pretty much like everyone else, but when the OP related how the shop fessed up and fixed it without crawfishing, I thought to myself "hmmmm...that doesn't happen often these days." Then when the OP revealed the name of the shop, everything clicked in my mind and my dealing with Kyle Racing came back to me.

**** happens, and sometimes people screw up. Happens all the time, but when they take responsibility for their mistake and make things right....well, just not a lot of that left in the world today. To me, that says alot about that company's/person's character.

Thanks for sharing that, 'Owie. It speaks volumes for Kyle's integrity.

As a former small business owner, I've eaten some mistakes. Hated every one of them, too! Fix it, eat the cost, make DAMN sure it doesn't happen again. Life goes on.

How's the engine coming?
