Was doing some back roading today on my little bike (no ABS), trees and underbrush along each shoulder of the road. When rounding a curve, I was surprised by a forest rat browsing at the side of the road. She started across the road in front of me, I could tell i had no chance of getting stopped in time. When I hit the horn and the two PIAAs cut loose, it scared her so badly, she turned the other way and took off in the opposite direction. My sincere thanks to the folks on this forum that suggested the PIAAs; if I'd had the wimpy OEM horn still, I likely would have had another close encounter of the worst kind. Those PIAAs have saved me several times from inattentive cagers and they paid for themselves many times over today.

This forum has cost me a whole bunch of money but at least I was able to spend it on the things that worked. The collective wisdom here is a powerful thing. Having the good sense to follow the advice here is even more powerful. Glad you came through that without any harm.

Just another thought... While having a loud source of noise available at the push of a button is a fantastic and proven safety device just think how much safer you would have been if you had equipped your bike with loud pipes!

Gee, I crack myself up sometimes.

Glad it worked out this time.

Can't bet on them doing anything good for you. They're reactions are random as a defense.

Next time, proactively avoid out riding your sight line.

Glad you dodged a bullet!

Riding alone through the woods? That could have compounded a bad situation.

Those same PIAA horns saved my a$$ 3 weeks ago in central MI. A cager on a cell phone pushed into my lane on the highway at 70MPH. She nearly pushed me off the road when I let loose on the brand new horns ... Scared the $h1t out of her ... I would have been funny if it had not been so dangerous (on her part) ...

They may not be as loud as the "loudest" horns out there (whatever one that is), but they get the job done ... And then some ...

I recently used my PIAAs to prevent an 80mph wreck in front of me. Pickup truck in front of me with a new camaro in the lane to his right. both drivers playing with their cell phones. Truck decides to change lanes without really looking. I laid on the horn for a second and they both snapped to attention and back into their lanes. Needless to say, the moment I could get around the pair of them I did. Better to leave those idiots in my rearview.
