Randy - I went to Star Traxx and found the IBR section, but what bike # is Iggy (or Doug)? I only see bike numbers listed - no names...
Thanks!

Doug has a Star Traxx on his bike and this is his personal link

I sure hope it's not up to date. It shows him in Dayton, OH. It showed him around Indy around 4 hours ago. Dayton should be less then 2 hrs from Indy.

nevermind.....must have been working from cache...looks like they're around Cambridge, OH as of 8:45 pm EDT

I'm thinking the same thing. Dale, have you heard from Doug?

It looks to me like the whole site is lagging behind considerably. All 12 riders seem to be moving pretty slowly, although some may have had to stop to let some severe weather pass.

Checked the national weather service map, there's some heavy stuff going on in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania right now, It's clearing off around Indianapolis, lets hope it catches up with the riders.

If you use the private link to doug's private star traxx link then map isn't as good as the group map posted elsewhere. But if you zoom out a bit and then use the drop down in the lower left you can select a different map overlay. And one of the options is current weather.

So the short answer is yes, it is raining on them at the moment. (And that startrax thing is very cool!)

Doug's current Startrax location is near the intersections of Hwys 70 and 77, just outside Cambridge OH. How often does the information get updated?

Yeah...i updated my previous post...not sure if it was just going to cache, but, if my memory is correct, it had them about 4 3/4 hrs from Indy to Cambridge and, considering the weather, it wouldn't surprise me if the pace is down a bit.

Looks like they're buzzing along and just outside of Moundsville, WV - spot of their 2nd bonus location. As they've been running a few hours in the dark and rain, my guess is the charging system is getting pushed, so, hopefully all is OK.

Mapquest says Moundsville is 554 miles from St Louis.

Yes, they are moving in on their second bonus, the Hoagy Carmichael (IBA Mile Eater Mural), Moundsville, WV- 5099 points.

I forgot to leave my phone number in my haste to post before heading off to work. I work 2nd shift (3pm to 11pm) so I may be a little hard to get a hold of.

Quick report. Doug and I are in Somerset, PA and it has literally rained all but 12 miles from St. Louis! And most of the time it's been hard. Faced with rain the rest of the way to Buxton, Maine we dedided to rest a few hours here. We had to search for a dry spot and Doug has 10 square inches on a shirt and his feet. My *** is dry....and that's it.

We're literally putting our socks and non-metal things in the microwave. The floor is covered with steaming things. The heater is cranked and window open.

Doug's alternator seems to be a bit happier. The bike's starting without that whir-whir-whir slowness of a weak battery and eventually gets up to 14.0 volts after 20 minutes of riding.

Nothing really to do at this point unless the bike dies. We're wondering if the Datel is wonky at this point.

The plan is to get up just before daylight and bascially move in this storm to Canada. It's like this 1000 mile weather pattern is taking the same route as us and at least 30 other riders.

More on my blog.

I'm 2.5 hrs from you. Assuming you're coming across the PA turnpike then up 81, as I mentioned previously - I'm less then 3 miles off of I81. If you need ANYTHING, please call at ANY TIME 717 439 3814. I've got lots of dry clothes, gloves, food, snacks, drinks, rain gear, Gerbings, etc. I can yank the battery out of my bike so you can have a spare - It's on the tender now.

Also, if you want, you can drop any stuff that I can mail to you later.

Newbie following this IBR event... Just have to say ALL of you posters are awesome! The support you are offering to these hard-riders (ie. the very blood from your own bikes!! Food shelter clothes services and parts etc) shows your true colors...Damned American of you. Seriously... makes me proud to be an FJR owner. I haven't seen or found this type of teamwork/brotherhood since I was on active duty.

I have little/nothing bike-wise to offer, but goods, food, sleep, and services are there for anyone of you who passes through my area and needs it!

Big thumbs-up!

Chris

In case anyone reading this thread is unaware, Doug Chapman's electrical woes appear to be all gone now.

His Datel is now pushing close to 14v at any decent engine speeds, so.... whatever it was (water intrusion is suspected), it appears to be gone for now.

Buxton. a bonus location this year. It's been a mandatory check point in past years. I don't know why this thread didn't pop up in the "show new" options but that's happened before. Since everyone is hit and moved on from Raynold's, my understanding is that the charging came back up to normal. Reports were that it was water intrusion into the connector.

--update--

oops didn't see dale's update before replying. people were pretty soggy by the time they got to Buxton.

I haven't read this thread in it's entirety, but I am aware the IBR is in progress. My 07 is currently collecting dust in a garage in Nashville, TN and is available for emergency parts donorship for any fellow FJR during the rally.

Krashdragon in Medina OH has one for sale posted on the forum....maybe sorta possibly on the route???

sorry, that one's been sold already...

I hope it's just moisture...

My son and I were driving thru Ar in a very bad thunderstorm... it took two days for the electrics in my Jeep Liberty to dry out... my dash lights were still dimming on and off the next night!
