Not a terrible biased argument.

Not so bad when you consider

2001 62 deaths out of 51,826. That's .0011 percent of riders killed.

2006 97 deaths out of 89,721. That's .0010 percent of riders killed.

HMMMMMMMMM???????????? Rising motorcyclist's deaths?????

Also interesting that the over 40 age group is showing the largest increase in deaths. I guess the baby boomers are all riding these days???

No ****!?! Really?

I think the baby boomer issue will eventually sort itself out. We have a growing group of folks in their mid to late 40's to mid to early 50's that are getting new rides because they've always wanted one and they are now in a position with kids grown to afford it.

They take off with little to no gear or protection and even less training. The results aren't good.

It amazed me the amount of riders in some of the Western states we visited on the way to/from WFO that were sans proper gear. Especially, the 30 something dude on the Tiger who came tearing up that gravel road on the Alpine ride. Boots, jeans, proper riding jacket, no gloves or helmet... on gravel. Brilliant. :dntknw:

....................we're just weeding ourselved out of the gene pool, nut. No worries, mate.

I'd like to see the full quote, the little .... indicates that they cut out some of it.

Oooooh this could be a fun fill in the blank.

Bikes are so ___________ fast ____________ and with zero protection.

me first.

Bikes are so supposed to be ridden at 100+ all the time. Thats fast, and I knew it would be fun to crash. It was so much fun, I rode even faster and with zero protection.

As a Baby Boomer, I resemble that remark! (and with every passing day, I'm more and more resembling my Dad!).

At least around here (Central Ohio), this phenomenon manifests itself in two ways:

1. There is but one motorcycle, and H-D is its name;

2. All of those new H-D's carry a rider dressed from the Harley catalog, from bar to bar to bar.

.....and I DID like the insightful statistical analysis that created the article's premise.... :p

Personally, I found the inclusion of a Motorcycle Helmet Law icon on the motorcycle Mad Maps of the U.S., extremely disturbing. It certainly indicated to me an overwhelming desire to "shed the lids" whenever state law permits it.

The aforementioned newspaper article cites the direct correlation between repeal of the Kentucky state law requiring helmets and the almost instantaneous, 2-year jump in motorcycle deaths. Can you say Duhhh!!!

Now now, in many threads ago we already determined that:

Helmets do not in fact save lives but cost them.

- They limit vision

- They can spontaneously break your neck.

- Your Noggin wasn't build to be encapsulated in a styrofoam cooler regardless of the outer lining, thus you cook brain cells.

and of course

- Helmets cause cancer.

Damn people catch on will ya?
