I didn't read the whole thread, but the only real number that should remain valid, would be deaths per miles traveled (car/motorcycle; same eval). Statistics can say just about anything you want them to; just the point of view used. i.e., if you die, death rate is 100%, if you don't, then the figure goes all the way to zero (if you neglect to state how you are measuring the results).
