The tank is blue now,but I am not sure that the shade of blue is right. I got the paint code off of the Faq page ,but to me ,when it is setting with the bike under flouresent lighting ,it looks to dark. I may take a old mirror up to the paint store and search their chips for a closer color,or I may run it for a while. I haven't seen it out in the sunlight to see if it lightens up a bit. I also think I am going to clear coat it ,even though it is a single stage urethane,as I color sanded it and it will not quite buff the way I think it should, but clear will cure that. I have tank badges off of Ebay that are for a R1 or R6 and are about 1/8" smaller dia. than the feeger. Hopefully by this weekend I can put everything together and get it mounted, and then wait for March , and the run to Daytona from somewhere south of St Louis Mo.

Looks superb ! Color matching is tough when taking into account the effects of several years of UV aging.

The typical solution is a total repaint for the very discriminating and settling for the best result by the rest. Once set on the bike you can decide where it falls in for you.

In any case what you have now is fantastic considering where its been. Kudos on your most excellent project !

Had you gone 2 stage, base coat clear as the rest of the bike is you'd have a better match. The single stage color will never look the same as the two stage, even the shine will be different as will the color under different types of lighting.

That tank looks really, really good even as-is. If I had your skills I'd do the same thing then paint the tank and bike Ferrari red! :yahoo:

Take a side panel off and up to a good paint store...they can computer color match it. And I would also recommend going PPG two stage.

Actually the stock color is 3 stage as you have a base color and a top coat color before the clear ( somewhat like a candy), If I redoe I may try base/clear and use a silver met. first as a base color ,and maybe that will lighten it up, Or since I got called back to work today after 9 months ,I may just order the colorite system and be done with it.

I Like it! Your workmanship is outstanding...

Run that puppy for a while while your bank account is healing now that you're back to work. Congrats on that, too! :yahoo:

It pains me to hear of anyone having to buy the damn Color Rite system with their insane pricing. Computer matching by a auto body paint store guy/gal who really knows their business might be the way to go.

Find out which body shop in town does collision repair on high end stuff, and ask their paint guy who they use for color matching. They will be able to get you right into the ballpark if you have a pristine panel they can use to get the color reading.

It's been fun following along with you as you've tackled this project. I wish I had your skills!

Don

Any chance of a picture with it just sitting on the bike??
