Frogg Toggs "Horny Toadz" First Ride Report: 8/23/2011 - Typical Central Florida frog-strangler afternoon thunderstorm - 2.5 inches/hour, 40 minute drive through torrential downpour.....

Got home dry, except for a spot about 4 inches in diameter right in the chest area on my shirt. Typical "blow through" through a zipper. Why don't these rain suit makers use Velcro strips instead of snaps every 6 inches???

So far, I'm pleased. YMMV.
I still recommend the Depends.

Tour Master Defender has Velcro stip over the entire zipper and across the collar, and large Velcro pads to tighten the sleeve cuffs.

And cheaper than the thing you bought.

I have a Tour Master Defender 2-piece suit. Packs pretty small, and I've never been wet in it.

I have the same one. It packs very nicely and not a drop of water gets in. :clapping:

This includes the 9 days riding in the Monsoon I affectionately call: SFO09!! :bike: :flood: :good: :Snorkle:

I stand by my original statement. They suck water in, not repel it. Frogg Toggs suck. If anyone likes them PM me and I'll GLADLY sell you these POS worthless PIA so called weather gear. Just sayin' of course.

Wheatie, did I go by your place and not know it? Didn't see any Wheatonville water phallic tanks in the sky thingies..

..and Smitty? Et tu Brutus?

Having a blast, loving the ride..

peace out from Chamberlin, SD, looking at the mighty MO from the hotel room window!

The newer Road Toads are much better more robust...... never got wet with my old ones in 3 years..... whassa matter?
So I go to my local CycleGear shop before the 'big ride' and that's what they have - Highly recommended, no one has had anything bad to say. So I buy the POS Togs. And get wet. Did not know they have an 'improved' model. Gee, wonder why they had to 'improve' the original design? I'll tell you why in the best TWN fashion I can muster - because they SUCK!

I don't think you've been in a real rain, no offense?

I think Don just put 'em on inside out...with the wet side on the inside. :D

Hey, if the guy is wet, you can't argue with that. The dude is wet after 10 mins. I'd be pissed, too.
Thanks Wheatie.. I was pretty freaking disappointed when I felt my left nut shrivel up after only 10 minutes in the wet. No wonder I love the west coast, the left coast, the dry coast, the good coast! :****:

I would not recommend these POS's to anyone planning to stay dry.
Iron Butt to Candy Butt Rider: I hear 'ya! I've seen only one IBR rider use them....and they looked really, really wet....even wetter than me in my Darien.
There you go! Even the Aerostich peeps have shrunken wet nads due to leakage. This is NOT rocket science, really. Why do we put up with it?

This post could NOT be more timely....

"Brown" just delivered my new "Horny Toadz" by Frogg Toggs about 20 minutes ago. Hi-Viz jacket and black pants.

My 9 year-old original version (read: Tyvek) Toggs were worn out to the point that heavy rain came right through the cloth.

The new "Horny Toadz" version is MUCH better made, with a wider storm flap over the zipper, better zippers on the legs to allow donning over boots, elastic and velcro closures on the sleeves and "spats" to keep the legs from riding up.

I'm hoping it rains (again) for my ride home to give the new "Toadz" a workout.

Been VERY happy the past 9 years with my $40 Frogg Toggs and hope to have the same success with the new version.

$117 from Motorcycle Superstore

Hope I have better luck than my buddy Don.....though he probably cheaped out and bought the $20 Toggs. :p
No, IIRC it was more like 70 bucks.. When I get back I'll post them 4-sale.. maybe some ***** will buy them..

I told you buy the liners for your motoport suit.

That's what you get being cheap.
Here is the worst part. I have them with me. But J, it was so freaking hot.. 90F and 100RH - was really hoping the Frogg Toggs would at least 'breathe' somewhat to keep it less miserable. You know that feeling when the boyz first get wet? The the thigh? The knees? and down into the boots? :****:

I will say this - it did rain hard.. I'll make you look at my RR to see the pix of what I went through..

Donned the Frog Togs and jumped into the fray
Within 10 minutes, crotch, legs, everything WET.
Criminy, Carver -- they're not wet suits and YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO PISS IN THEM!!!
True confession time? :p

Hey ya dip ****.. You didn't notice they were wet before you donned 'em??????

Damn straight! I pissed all over them for you allowing the dickholes into the room while I was sleeping. Smell yerself thimbledik.

:****:

+1 on the Tour Master Defender 2-piece. Worn lots of times, in LOTS of rain. No rain on me! Downside, they do make ya sweat.

Had an old set of Frogg Toggs, non-motorcycle specific. They worked okay, but the zippers on the leg and jacket blew out. Got a Leep Frogg suit, much beefier zippers and material. Works really well, so far. Only issue I had was the pocket snap on the pants popped off and they replaced it under warranty. I also have a FirstGear rain suit. That is more rubber-like and much bulkier. Works great in the cold weather rain, but is damn hot otherwise.

After failing snaps and wicking from every crease known and unknown, I can finally say

my Toggs work great... you guys are packing them for the wrong reason- they don't keep

you dry, BUTT they make a great pillow at Iron Butt Motels. I never leave home without

them! :yahoo:

RadioHowie, I got the exact same Horny Toadz set you did. Be careful with your electronics, I stayed dry by my itouch did not which was an unpleasent surprise with 2 days left on my trip.

I still have no idea how the hell the inside of the pocket got wet and I stayed dry. Don't know if water ran down the cord from my neck, it was from me sweating, or water crept up from the elastic waste band. The inner pockets go all the way down to the elastic waste band on the inside so anything in the innner pockets slides all the way down to the bottom of the jacket. I have no idea why it doesn't have a standard suspended inner pocket.

Hey, guess what the Tour Master Defender has???

OK, it's not an inner pocket, but the zippered chest pocket is waterproof, and easily accessible without removing half your gear. Also, my wallet has stayed dry being carried in the thigh pocket of the pants.

I carried a Motorola RAZR with a broken face glass in jacket that pocket, and it never had a problem. (That was the only thing wrong with the RAZR: that glass on the front would crack if you even looked at it sideways! I bought replacements on eBay 5 at a time!)

better to get a jacket and riding pants that can zip the vents shut when the rains come. avoid the roadside rain suit boogie.

I spent about $35 at Walmart for their "Stearn's" brand jacket and pants. They're really nice, waterproof and comfortable. They're nylon with a breathable waterproof liner. Not sure hwo they do them so cheap, they must be made somewhere cheaper than China.

Ummmm, you didn't order the crotchless Frog Toggs by chance, did you?
