Oh, and yama mama recommends 36 for the front, no? Coincidence, I am sure. What the hell do they know?
Just remember that OEM recommendations are for OEM tires. Swap brands/models and that goes out the window.

Also remember that Ford recommended artificially low PSI in their Firestone OEM tires to create a "plusher" ride (and to save the cost of re-engineering their suspension). We all know how that turned out.

I ordered a set of Pilot Roads from Ride Now. I placed a phone order back on Thursday 8/31. Still no tires. I sent a e-mail was told they had to order them, out of stock and the rear tire was "released" from the warehouse? a week ago which means they should receive shipment w/in the next 3 days and as soon as they receive it they will ship to me. They went further to say that the front is expected to be released this week which means they wont receive it for another week, afterwhich they will ship as soon as it is received. I got a good deal on the tires from Ride Now but does this sound legit? Am I being to impatient? I have a conference I must attend beginning 9/23 through 9/28 and I have a Dragon trip scheduled for 10/14-17 and will have to take the front and rear wheels off and have the new tires mounted and then re-install the wheels. Since I work and other activities I need weekends to do the wheel removals and reinstall and I am running out of weekends. Starting to squirm in my chair a little. I just want to make sure these people aren't feeding me some junk. These are the first tires I have ordered off the net--so no past experience--first order I have ever placed w/Ride Now as well. Anyone ever heard of this "released from warehouse" term before and the "expect to receive from warehouse a week after release" lingo before? Thanx-BD

DB,

I just heard from my dealer that the PR's are on backorder until NOVEMBER!!!!! No explanation, but the distributor is apparently out of stock.

Ride Now said my Pilot Road rear is shipping today. He called his distributor and said he would have my front in by the end of the week. The back order expecting delivery in November is for the Pilot Powers only. :yahoo:

So far I've run OEM Stones, Metzler and now on my second set of PRs. Just ordered and received a three-set of Pirellie Diablo Strada "E".

I like the PR best so far. Can't speak to how it compares to the Avons. Was too worried about all the complaints of cupping.

Will say that I run my front Pilot Road at 38 psi. It's happy there and seems to wear about right. PR is definitely a tiny bit sluggish in the tight corner. You have to force it in a bit.

Looking forward to testing the Stradas. At EOM this weekend, got my butt kicked in the tight corners by a tiny little teenage chick on a stolen FJR, and a grumpy old fart running some outrageously hard compound rubbers. So what the F#$K do I know!

:)

I'm still waiting on my Maximum Man Mammaries Meats, also Pilot Roads. Since what, July 27ish? I can only think that they too were on a back order status, hence the lengthy delay.

ummmmm, looking at my new pilot roads I dont see a light spot (marking) for valve stem placement? whats up w/dat? I wont mount or balance them, I'll have it done, but was just wondering why no dot?

While a marking on the tire is definitely a good thing, it seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Avons don't have any type of marking either.

However..........

Placing any type of marking at the valve stem would be bad idea. NONE of the many FJR wheels I have come across had their heavy spot near the valve stem. Yet another good reason to do your own tires.

How and where do I read the date of manufacture? I know it's on the sidewall but is it a code or sump'n? :unknw: :umnik2:

Michelin doesn't mark their tires ... "they come out of the mold balanced".

So I am told by Mich. I have no reason to doubt them. When I pulled the BTs, the weights came off and have not been back. My rear was balanced with zero weights added, and my front needed only a little weight to correct a slight wheel diff on one side. Tires were indeed perfectly balanced all by themselves. Same experience as on my PR equipped Goose.

Got 9500 miles on my Z6s that came on my 06. Never got more than 6000 out of a rear on my 05. The AE needs a little muscling around with these tires, a lot of countersteering required. Not sure I like that so much but wear, adhesion wet and dry seems to be very good. Had stones, stradas and Avons on my 05 and I liked the Stradas best but only had a few hundred miles on these before I sold the bike so not sure about wear.

Michelin Pilot Road rear: 21st week 2005.
