I realize this is probably NEPRT fodder, but WTF is going on with these front tires? AFAIK they only have 5500 miles on them and they have taken on a distinct wedge shape. Plenty of center tread left, the shoulders are about gone. I have a pair of PR2 waiting to mount, but I didn't think I'd need them quite yet.

Sorry but I didn't see anything in the picture that indicates a need for a tire change. I do think the FJR does wear front tires faster than other bikes. It's my humble opinion its because the rear and front wheels support equal weight where most bikes the rear supports more than the front. Wouldn't be disappointed if someone can shoot my theory down as I'm just guessing.

my OEM front lasted 4000 miles before it had a trapezoid cross section - worn center, worn sides with a sharp ridge between the center and the sides. My back tire was fine. I bought another OEM front figuring I'd get another 4K and then replacing the pair with Pilot2's. I am now at 8K and the front is wearing exactly like the last OEM. The back still looks surprisingly well.

It feels weird when I ride on this tire as the bike has to 'fall over the ridge' to get onto the side to turn. I hope the next set doesn't wear like this.

Eric, the trapazoid shape is what I have, and I guess its not too unusual. It does make cornering a bit different as the roll-in is not as smooth.

I can tell you this much, there is no standard on tire wear! If I could get 5500 miles out of any tire I would be quite happy. Your riding style, even the way some roads are constructed make the difference in tire wear isues. There are some on this board who claim 16K+ out of a set of tires, I guess it pays to obey the speed limit and avoid heavy acceleration and braking!

Those tires show good wear, you dont have many miles left! When you put new tires on it will feel like a new bike!

Sorry to see this. But this is why many prefer the PR2's or PR3's, including myself.

Good Luck with your Michelins!

Thanks. Of course I figured I could avoid what had happened to everyone else, but it looks like this kind of tire wear goes hand in hand with charging turns. They did stick pretty good, but that is pretty fast time to go through a set of tires IMO.

The -021 front is known to suck life-wise. PR2s go about 10 to 14K, depending on who you talk to. I run a Pirelli Diablo Strada and get about 14K, but I ride in Florida, 99.99994935% straight and level.

Y'all shuddup about tires lasting 10 to 14K - I am lucky if mine get to 7K.

6.5K and the wear bars are kissing the asphalt.

Bridgestones are known for crappy front tire wear - both mileage and irregularites like cupping.

To extend front tire life, keep off the front brakes while leaned over! If you can do that.

Tonight I took off a set of Bridgestones 020s and my front tire had 13k miles on it and looked much worse than yours.

Do yourself a favor and get another tire other than Bridgestones.

Now I have to chime in! PR2s are consistently giving me 15,000 miles on the rear and 25,000 miles on the front!

I ride alot of slabs and don't brake much though...

BTW what are wear bars??? ;)

A wear bar is a place to get hammered that turns into a lingerie shop every full moon, and a lot of these guys hang out there:
