Was going over the 06 today before I went for a ride and noticed the front left bolt on the left side that holds the front wheel on was only 3 or 4 threads holding it on! Talk about getting the hair to stand up, this really spooked me. Needless to say, I went over the whole bike and checked "all" fasteners. Oh, by the way, does anybody know the torque on this item? I just tightend the heck out of it as I don't have a manual yet. Ride safe, PM. <><

This is a good reminder for all the '06 folks to go into the garage and just give a twist to all the bolts and fasteners just for the hell of it. I may have to do just that when I get home today.

As nice as it was of Highlander to post those torque specs, don't use specs from an 04 on your 06. May be a whole different animal, as the fork has changed on the 6 IIRC. Snug it up good and if it's a worry, get the manual asap and go from there. Strip that puppy and the **** starts.

Are we talking about the pinch bolts on the '06? Aren't there 4 of them (2 left, 2 right) as opposed to the 1 that was on the previous models? Something tells me the torque specs might be a bit different...

Traditionally, the 2 pinchbolts per fork leg arrangement are typically torque to ~ 12 ft-lbs, thereabouts.

Talked with my dealer's mechanic and said they didn't have the specs on the 06 FJR. Is this a red flag? He said they have a company set up their bikes as they don't have time. But isn't it the dealers job to make sure these bikes are roadworthy before they leave the shop? I did put medium locktite on the bolt as the threads are not aluminum and I will be torquing to at least 50lbs. This bolt is not one of the pinch bolts but the large bolt on the left side where the axel bolt is. And the axel does not go all the way through on this model. The bolt is only about 1.25"L fine thread. I will be getting a manual and will be checking my own ride. I'm not putting my butt on the line by someone elses word. PM. <>< :assasin:

I'm going to have to eat my words about my dealer. The service manager just called me back and appoligized for the bolt issue and offered me a free 600 mi. service!! He also said to bring it in and they would check it over. They said the problem will be resolved with the people who setup the bikes and oh, the manager gave me the official torque on this bolt with the 22mm head-- 50 lbs. for the 06. :D

Remember that when you lube any threads the torque value changes !! Usually you need to reduce the value when lubing threads. Ain't that right Rad ?? :D

Thats right Ed! (if thats your name, I dunno, just works). And whats more, wet loctite counts!

Painman-

When you picked up your 06, did you have any miles on the od suggesting a test drive from the assembler?

Sounds like a good dealer to me...Glad you got it worked out.

If your experience w/ this dealer remains positive (or if it doesn't for that matter) be sure to post in the Dealer Feedback Forum...
