Today myself and two riding buddies made our first test run with our Autocomm Pro7 and FRS radios. We have fairly inexpensive Cobra FRS radios. What does it take to improve the sound quality over the radios? We need to experiment more with the volume settings on the radios. We haven't done enough experimenting to confirm whether the sound quality improves with more or less volume on the radio. The VOX feature seemed to work fine but sound quality made it difficult to understand many communications. Is this a result of fairly inexpensive radios or do we need to play more with the volume settings. Any suggestions are welcome. BTW the radio is a Cobra PR1100WX.

No idea if the Cobras work similarly to our Kenwood TK3101's (just about the most expensive GMRS radios but AutoCom recommended them) but we found that if the volume knob was turned up too high, past about half-way, on the radio it caused a severe distortion in our transmission. Very weird but repeatable on three radios.

Be absolutely certain your mic is centered on your lips and just about touching them. It is extremely sensitive to positioning.
