I wonder if Ari could write a story for this photo?

Yo...FJR1300!! Who's the bonehead in your avatar riding without a helmet?
Me...
But there is a story to that picture. That is Push Mountain Road in Arkansas... a great road to ride if you get a chance. Long story short, we were taking pictures of each other coming around the corner when I decided to do a quick run without the helmet. (A quick run was down the road less than a tenth of a mile, turn around and come around the corner.) That night I downloaded the picture from my camera and I sent it to my wife and a few friends. I told them I decided to ride the entire weekend without it! The picture was taken for fun and I ride with my helmet... I just couldn't resist having fun with some family and friends.

I started using the picture for my avatar after the recent helmet discussion. Too many people were saying they agreed with the helmet laws and wanted more. My take is we live in a free country, so if you don't want to wear a helmet... some politician shouldn't tell you that you have to wear one. Again, I wear one... I just don't agree with the laws and remember I was a cop!

My ol' man rode motorcycles for years and he gave me a piece of advice: "Always, always wear you helmet. Sometimes, enjoy the wind in your face and hair...."

Now on topic:

That was a well-written vignette. I think it captures the simple joy of riding.

+1

if you're self insured and don't expect a "collective" to amortize your medical costs. please see the court clerk to sign your waiver for any costs over and above the value of your accumulated assets.

I thought those would be the uberkul terminator glasses....my bad. I just wear raybans.

I'm glad I was invisible on that hot, breezy hill. I wouldn't have wanted to miss that.
Thanks for your excellent post, Ari, "I wouldn't have wanted to miss that" and I look forward to more of your eloquent observations. In my opinion your writing style rates right up there with four long-time favorite slice-of-life mc writers of mine: Cycle World's Peter Egan, Warren Harhay, Bob Higdon, and Sam LePore.

It was clear from the way she walked that she probably looked pretty good 20 years and 50 pounds ago.

I am really concerned about you Ari. You were looking at the guy the entire time - very disturbing, I would have been picturing the "young lady" 20 years younger and 50 pounds lighter :p
